hi today I checked in for our thomson flight - very excited.

Due to illness & medication my nails are horrendous- they break so easily. I have to wear nail varnish continually. I'm constantly having to redo. I was planning on taking my nail varnish remover in my case but after checking in I got thinking is that classed as an acid? Which means I can't take it?

I looked on garden grocer to see if I can get it delivered ( I've already got an order booked) but I can't seem to find it - do they call it something different in the states?

Anyone got any ideas - 13 days and counting

I use the nail varnish remover pads. I get mine from Boots. Solves the problem, you still can travel with nail varnish remover but don't have the hassle of the liquid.

The other option is to buy it when you get there. CVS are the equivalent to Boots

Also now that I think about it, I'm sure Boots at the airport sells nail varnish remover???

I've taken nail varnish remover several times, didn't realise I couldn't. Never had any problems. If you're worried buy it out there

Not quite in line with the original message but have you thought about getting Shellac? I had awful nails before I started with Shellac, as I take immunosuppressants and have a lot of issues with hair/skin/nails due to malabsorption associated with Crohn's but with Shellac my nails are so strong, lasts about 3 weeks too so no constant reapplications.

Natalie I'm on methotrexate an immunosuppressant. Will consider shellac- I didn't know if my nails would strong enough to support shellac

I was on Azathioprine and Pentasa but had terrible reaction, currently taking Sulfasalazine mainly due to associated joint issues. Not too much fun so I feel your pain! Shellac has quite a good strengthening effect, my nails are absolutely rock solid now, cannot remember the last time I broke one - would just advise getting it put on and also take off by a professional. I'm getting mine redone for trip on Saturday, looks like we fly out the same day as you, hope you have a fantastic trip!

Have you tried Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails"? It's clear so you can just reapply over the existing coat if necessary.

I would not recommend gel polish off you have weak nails. Even when professionally done, the removal process is pretty brutal to even healthy nails.

Thanks

Superdrug had 3 for 2 yesterday on the nail varnish remover pads so took it as a sign lol and bought them

I always take the remover pads, usually just buy whatever make is available in Boots but last summer bought some in M&S and they are really good.

I'm a beautician from Norwich, my disney packing info is that you are able to take polish remover- I've never had an issue taking it, but like BadPinkTink says take polish remover pads if your unsure.

My beautician info is to stop using any 'strength or hardener polishes for your nails', this actually make nails very brittle, ridge like and because they become brittle will break down short! Use a protein base strong (Essie have a good one) and use a cuticle oil every night before you go to bed. Cuticle oil feeds the nails what it needs :) Dadi Oil is 95% organic and I use it in my salon, sells out all the time. Good luck and hope you get beautiful nails soon!

If you are buying over there cvs/walgreens sell great nail varnish remover that comes in a tub with a sponge in. You just stick your finger in and twist to remove polish. Very cheap - I stock up and bring them home for my friend too. Never thought about it - always wrap well and put in checked luggage. I have seen similar here but expensive and not as good.

My Mum has to take methotrexate x

Thanks for this tip; def going to give it a try, been using supposed nail strengthner (after years of being a nail biter) and mine have become really brittle.

My nails are bad on and off from having chemo in 2013 and then two lots of longterm picc line treatment's and cefertraxion,
I use solar oil and it's saved my nails!! It's what they recommend if you have acrylic nails to keep the beds and nails underneath strong healthy and flexible, can't tell you the difference it's made, my nails was splitting and ripping in places, and was paper thin, there now really good, and I just finished another 3months of picc line treatment.
I've also always taken nail polish remover with me
