MYW upgrading to AP question

I have reservations for Jan 08 and am hoping for the free park hopper and water park upgrade. If they come out can I upgrade the MYW tickets at the park in January to an APs for our June 08 trip with the upgrade still included? Do they give you credit for the price of the MYW tickets? If they do, will it be at the basic AP rate? That would be incentive enough to go room only for June.
Also should we wait until the last day to upgrade to APs so it wouldn't effect the dining plan? :confused3 :confused3
TIA
Elizabeth

i did exactly that last january - paid for a 6d base ticket, rec'd upgrade to PH & WP, and then upgraded to an AP. the difference was $137. i booked 2 nights room only at ap rate at AKL for the end of the stay for $160 off!

Remember that if you use any of your "pluses" you can only upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass.

Thanks for mentioning this -- I knew there were some circumstances that required an upgrade to the premium AP but couldn't remember what they were!

what do you mean by plusses? If I use the park hopper option while there in January I can't upgrade my tickets? I wouldn't use the water option in Jan but would like to have it in June. Sorry to be so dense!

if you use a water park or disney quest admission and upgrade that MYW ticket to an AP, you must upgrade to a premium AP.

"Pluses" are admissions to Disney Quest and the water-parks. The new tickets have an equal number of plus admissions to park days. So if you get a 6-day MYW pass, you have 6 pluses to use. The park hopper option is not a plus.

You should still be able to upgrade your ticket to a "regular" AP if you don't use any of the plus options, but a "regular" AP does not include water park admissions. That's why if you use any plus admissions, you have to upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass, which does include DQ and water parks.

You could buy 10-day MYW tickets, no expiration, and get 10 pluses with them and use them on your June trip. But this is only a good deal if the 10 days will cover both your trips. Otherwise it's not such a good deal.

If you go to the Theme Park Attractions & Strategies board here on the DIS, there's a "sticky" post near the top of the page called "Everything you need to know about MYW tickets." It's written by a DIS-er who works in a ticket booth at Disney World so it's got lots of good information. Read that and see if it helps clear up any misunderstandings you have. :goodvibes
