MYW Package questions

Frist question. Am I correct that the MYW tickets (plus rack rate) and MYW packages work out to be about the same cost... Here's my story/questions...

I'm thinking about buying 10 day non expireing passes for the family and stretching them in to a trip next year and another one a year or two after that. We did the AP/2 trips in a year in Feb.'03 and Jan.'04 and it worked out great, but in these unstable times I'd rather have the option to postpone the second trip for as long as I need to. So it would be a little cheaper, and we'd have that freedom to plan the second trip at our leisure (the down side is we'd be limited to 5 days in the parks each trip)

So I just sat down and did a quick real spreadsheet to get all my prices together, I liked what I saw (7 days/6 nights at rack rate AS, and 5 hopping days for 2 adults and 2 kids) $1188 (per trip) If we know we can make it back in a year we could drop one of the MYW child tickets and add a childs AP for an extra $40... Upside- $190 discount on room plus various other discounts, downside- we'd have to go back in under a year, if we don't we will have to buy a 5 day expiring child hopper ($202.36) so there goes the $150 I just saved and then some and we'd loose the option of the dining plan (which I haven't even got to yet, which is sort of the reason for this post)

Does anybody know if I can book a MYW package and get a 10 day non exp. ticket, but only book the room for 6 nights? And I'm assuming (can somebody confirm) that there are no room discounts for rooms purchased as part of a package.

And finally, I really like the design of the new dining program, but my wife does not eat much at all, neither do my 3 and 5 year olds. So to use all of those dining options would be impossible (especially since they come with appetizers and desserts!!!)

So here's how it's playing out in my head... Book a package at the all stars for 2 adults with 10 day non exp. tickets (but the room is only for 7 nights) and add the dining option for both of us. Then separately buy 2-10 day child tickets for the boys. So now each day we would just have 2 sets of meals to use up.

Ok I know that a lot, and there are lots of if's... like if the tickets and room nights have to be the same, there goes the dinner option anyway.

I know that's skirting the laws of the mouse a little if I let the boys stay in the room w/o being on the package. If they are on the package they will be required to be on the dining package ($140 plus tax) that we would just be throwing them away (actually we'd give them away, no kidding, I'd invite strangers to join us for free meals rather that waste them (ask my wife, I've done it before))

And after all of that, and just in case someone was warming up thier flame thrower... If we go with another family of 4 like we may I'd just book the dining plan on one room and not the other and each family would get 1 adult dining option and 1 child dining option per day.

Sorry so long! Thanks for listening. Question, comments, feedback?

I can't answer your question but wanted to say "good luck." It is pitiful the lengths we all have to go to trying to save a few bucks at WDW... As my Dad likes to say "It's not easy to beat the rodent!" :)

Yes, you can get tix for longer than the length of your stay, even with a package.

It depends on who at Disney you talk to, but people have said that if you get a postcard or email offer, you CAN apply it toward your package. I'd keep callong Disney if you don't get the answer you want initially.

The only glitch in your scenario I see is thet ALL members of the party that are included in the room reservation must be on the meal plan for the entire stay... I wouldn't advise trying to "get away" with not adding the kids to the reservation.

If you go w/another family, and each have a seperate room, I don't see why you couldn't share the meals with them- but IMO, I wouldn't do it this way- just gives me the "trying to get away with something" vibe. I'm too much of a chicken when it comes to bending the rules.

The "getting away with something" or "breaking the rules" reason would be why I would mosly likey have the kids on the room too, plus like I said they are only $10 per person per day. That would add up over a 6 or 7 night stay, but you'd come out ahead on the deal. I just know we would never be able to use up that many options (even if we did the dinner shows) I'm working on that spreadsheet now. It seems like we'd be eating the entire trip.(works for me!)

The second family option would work great, because you wouldn't even have to skirt the rules(as much). If you wanted to keep it more legal, you could go as far as to put the reservations in the names of 1/2 of each family. The only place that I would be skirting the rules would be most nights from 10 or 11pm til 8 or 9 am when 2 of the people are sleeping in the "wrong" room.

While I'm certainly not an authority as I'm still working through the numbers myself, it is my understanding that that's right... Rack rate + myw tickets is roughly the same as an MYW package.

Also had a question about this:

I was under the impression that the kids APs didn't qualify for the hotel discounts, only the adults. Can someone shed some light on that either way?

Mike

Yes, I had heard that the AP had to be an adult Ap and not a child's. On Mousesaver's, she said few were able to get away with it, but that it isnt worth risking, because you might end up having to get another adult ap to get the discount. I had also heard that it is a rule that is enforced with employees (about the adult AP and not a child's), so I doubt few are able to do it much anymore.

OK, YES, you can get any length tickets with the new MYW plan, which is what I LOVE about it!!! You can get the 10 day ones, even if you are staying only one night!

Also, the new dining plan is only $10 per day for each child, which is a great deal!! Even if they don't eat that much, you will still be saving by getting it for them. Just because their meals come with app. and desserts, doesn't mean you have to get it. Also, especially in the food courts at the resorts, fruit and juices can be gotten for your dessert or beverage and used later or for breakfast the next day! So, keep that in mind.

And, can you book rooms on a child AP??? I thought it had to be in that persons name?

AND, can you have two rooms of people, but only one gets the food plan, yet others can use them? Doesn't seem as though that is right to me. Like I am going this summer, will have APs as will the others in my room. Our friend will have the dining plan. Can I use her dining options??? I don't see how. Not saying I can't, just seriously wondering!

I have asked this OVER and OVER about the email codes and the answer is NO! If your email is for a discounted package, then yes, but if it is a room only discount, then it is room only!

Called Disney and found out that it does have to be an ADULT AP to get the AP discounts! The room (s) have to go under that persons name and obviously a child can't book a room.

And, the dining plan is only for the person it is for. You can't share the meals with others that don't have the plan. Now, not saying with counter service you can't do that. You can have a family of four on the plan, go to your resorts counter service and get four meals and let anyone eat them. But sit downs I don't think you will get away with that.

?

This remains to be seen. They have not yet released new discounts since the MYW started this month. In early March, or before, we should see the mid-April through early-July discount codes (available to anyone) and we will find out if they are doing discounted packages.

As far as the postcard or email discounts, I read on another thread (sorry, can't remember whch) that if you get a 2005 postcard or email with a PIN, you can call and ask if the rates can be applied to your package- the CM can look up on the computer and quote you a discounted package price... but you must have a package to apply that rate to. Several people have posted that they HAVE indeed done this, and gotten the room discounted. So, at least check it out if you get a postcard- don't just assume you can't get it- it never hurts to try, and try a few times, to get a discount!!

We all had AP's when we went 2 years ago. During the planing I thought I remembered hearing that a childs AP was good enough for the room. Thank you setting me straight on that... I'll have to tweak my numbers on the spreadsheet.

On to the Dining and AP question... If we do have 1 AP(for what ever reason) but still did the package we would only need MYW tickets for the other 3. I'm sure that's not too uncommon. So now we would require a room w/ 3 tickets but there's 4 of us staying there... So are you required to buy package (tickets) for everyone in the room? I know you are supposed to have the meal plan for everyone in the room. Get the dilema there? The 4th person in the room doesn't need tickets, but is required to be on the meal plan... and yet you can only have the meal plan with the package.

It seems like it normally would be a room for 3 with the package and then add a fourth to the room (at no charge) again not that uncommon. But would that person be required to buy the meal plan???

While the child's meal package is reasonable enough, we would also have to buy 2 adult meal plans since everyone has to have one. That wouldn't save us money at all.

Don't all people registered to a room have to be on the same package for the same number of nights? Don't think you can have a package where 3 people in a room have one thing (room/tickets/dining plan) and the 4th has just room and dining plan.....

Oy, all the different questions about this package make my head hurt!!! :headache:

You can get a package with the room-only email pin. We just did this. With the same email pin, we got a 6 night package with discounted room, then a 2 night room only ressie for our last 2 nights.

We got the package for WL Woods view for May, total of $3154. Breakdown is 6 nights stay for 2 rooms (1833 -- 137 plus tax for 6 nights for each room), 6 nights dining (1070 -- 35 for each adult, 10 for each child, X 6 plus tax), then 251 for 1 day passes for 4 adults and 2 children. We have APs, so we don't need tickets at all for this trip. We will save the passes for a future trip, CRO verified that since they expire 14 days after 1st use, they will not expire if not used.

For our last 2 nights, we are using leftover meal vouchers, so we got room only ressies at 137 per night, total 306.

I was told by the CM that dining can be added with the discounted room only rate as long as tickets were added too. He said that this was a new thing, and that not all the CMs knew about it yet.

Was on another thread thAT listed sites for discount tickets one of my 5 angels shut the comp off now i cant find the thread any help?!

Because of what is being posted here about people being able to turn the email discounts into packages, I have called and called and I have been told the SAME thing by each and every person. Your email code HAS to be for a package discount. If the code is for room only, that is ALL you will get. I want the package, and it just isn't happening! NOW, maybe if I had already had a package booked, they might have adjusted it.

.

And your email says ROOM ONLY? These CMs are frustrating the crud out of me with this. So many people here on the boards with the email pin codes saying they are getting the packages, but I am being told over and over NO on this.

Another thing I asked about and was told you cant do, is get a 7 night hotel, 1 night tickets, and 7 nights dining (assuming you have AP). That your tickets MUST equal your nights stay!

Grrr..... I am calling them again tomorrow about this!
