Trip April 25- May 1
Myself, DH, DD (5), DS (2), DMIL (not on MYW dining plan with us)
Added my mother in law to our trip at last minute- she was on her own reservation so she dined with us but not as a MYW diner.

LTT character dinner- Food was good- Service was terribly slow- Character interaction was great- and we received a magical moment at this dinner where we got private time with characters and rang the dinner bell- really cool.

CRT breakfast- Food great- Characters great and not rushed- tipped extra because it was the only meal that service was prompt and good which is important to me with a 2 year old.

Cosmic Rays- Lines were terribly long- Lunch took forever but we all enjoyed our food- I used 3 CS here and fed 4 people.

Concourse Steakhouse- I was reluctant on trying this because of mixed reviews but it was delicious- one of the best meals- especially the dessert- but again service was slow- the cm let us order non alcoholic smoothies for our drinks. Childrens menu had their own childs appetizer- i think we ordered the childs shrimp cocktail which we knew she would eat but we would- 3 big delicious shrimp.

POR food court- We ate here for most of our breakfasts- mainly got two meals and split- MIL would always have our dessert which was fruit bowl and danish- DD and myself would split pancakes- DH got his own- DS just picked on whatever.

Sci Fi- paid out of pocket- didn't want to take the time to order apps and dessert- wanted in and out- felt like we were spending sooo much time eating by this point. Very good burgers as usual- nice break but wanted to get back to the parks- again service was slow.

Earl of Sandwich- Grabbed a quick sandwich late- Everyone was tired and cranky- My chicken salad was just so so but DH said his Jerk Chicken Sandwich was the best.

Tusker House- Food good- Kind of gave me a hard time for ordering 3 adult meals- I was only entitled to 2 adult and one child but wanted the 3rd adult for MIL and DD to share- CM did it but at first I thought she wasn't going to.

Boma- Awesome, Need I say more.

Kona Cafe- My favorite all week- I had Medallions of Filet Mignon- It was so good- Crab Cakes and dumplings for apps and cheesecake for dessert- DH passed on his dessert at this one- CM didn't offer DD an appetizer with her dinner here- I didn't ask cause I knew we going to have so much food already and there was nothing she would eat from the app menu.

Restraunt Akerush Character Dinner- We saw Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, Alice, Belle- Character interaction was great and not rushed- seemed very organized and the food was delicious and the CM was the best all week- the only thing is that i would have liked to have ordered more of the appetizer food but felt apprehensive since the CM did not offer- I do believe it was all you can eat but more was never offered. At CRT they always ask- I did feel the portions were on the small side for the price- but one of the best dinners in my opinion

MYW dining notes-
It was definatley worth it for us- we saved alot but i don't know how much- I started to keep track but it began to be too hard- I was originally going to pay out of pocket for child dinners but thought it may get too complicated with having my MIL getting her seperate check already- plus my DD wanted dessert at almost every sit down- So we paid out of pocket for our most inexpensive meal and it worked out great- We were able to feed my MIL from the plan for all CS meals- she paid her own way at sit downs. We were able to eat breakfast and lunch every day form the cs credits. I even cancelled a PS at Boatwrights for breakfast that I was going to pay for out of pocket because I had CS credits left over. It did seem once we said we were on the plan the service went down hill- it could have just been a busy time or people aren't tipping above the 18%- cs credits are most flexible at resort food court they never bothered us about ordering our third meal (childs meal) as an adult meal (like at Tusker House)- snacks were the usual ice cream and drinks but at the POR food court you could get juice, rice krispy treats, cookies, chips, pretzel, dirt pudding etc..I had a hard time using all snack credits so made everyone eat ice cream the last night- definatley go with a plan on how you are going to use your credits but remain flexible- Definatley happy with the plan.

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad that you had a good experience with the dining plan.
You're not the first person who has posted that they had trouble at Tusker House. I had planned to order three adult meals there, but may just do two and pay for child's meal. It's me DH, and DDS 5 and 2. I also thought of having my DH order two meals and me order one from another registeror after him.

We are going in nid-June. Staying at the Poly with 3 kids 10 and under. Last visit to DIsney, we stayed off-property and only ate lunch at the parks. I am soooo looking forward to this trip and using the DIning Plan. Do we need to make reservations for dinner for non-character dinners? We are not good at sticking to an itinerary and would rather play it by ear, unless it would mean long waits and possibly not getting in to eat. I do not want to waste any of the credits either. ANy advice?

Bartoli, I would definately make at least a couple of PS's. We are going June 10-17 with 3 children under 10 as well. Staying at POR. With the MYWD there are many more people taking advantage of the sit down dinners. We just added the dining package in the last 48 hours and I have been adding to my PS's and most all of them have been booked solid or they have asked if we can split between 2 tables. Playing it by ear might be o.k. for adults that have a lot more patients, but when kids are hungry...well you know!
JBUZZ2...thanks for the reviews! we have a lot of the same dining plans, it was good to know what to expect!

Great reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

I had trouble at Tusker House too. Never did get it worked out, and ended up w/ 2 adult, and 1 kid's meal. To me, it wasn't the fact that they would not do it- It was more of a problem that they bascially called me a liar, and told me, that I could not get away with that anywhere. Well obviously they were wrong, since most counter service places suggested that I get adult meals, and lg. drinks.

Any way- Glad you had a nice trip, and enjoyed the plan. We did enjoy it, but OH- so much food.

Bartoli- I suggest you make some PS- I know it's hard to think waht you may be hungry for, but I saw people turned away without one, and waiting up to 2 hours last week.

Those of you that had trouble at Tusker House - was is because they actually saw that you had a child with you, or could they somehow tell from your card that you had 2 adults and one child? We plan on the kids splitting some adult cs meals so that we can bank some for our last day...

Betty

The dining card sayd "2 adults 1 child" right on the front of it- when i had a problem was when i was buying 3 counter service meals at one time- it was then i was only entitled to 2 adult and 1 child and the only place that enforced this was at Tusker House- POR food court did not- the way to get around this is to buy the 2 adult meals and then go back or go to a different register and buy another adult meal-

Wright1baby- We had ps's that were split b/w two tables and each time they combined us when we were seated- never a problem- and i was worried that we would be dining separately but never happened- but remember to mention upon check in at the restraunt that you have the 2 ps's and would like to sit together if possible- one of mine was at different times too (about 10 minutes apart).

I actually just called to make a PS and he told me they will be combining 2 tables and it would be 1 PS. Twice before I called and no one offered to "combine" 2 tables, just said it would be 2 tables (as in across the room). Anyway...I got the PS. YEAH!!

We just got back from using the plan a few days ago. Every single table service restaurant we frequented was VERY busy. We had made PS for every night, and you are absolutely right--we got sick of having to stick to a strict schedule. If we do the plan again, we will do more lunches at table service establishments, as you usually don't require PS for lunch. However, I would strongly advise using PS for any restaurants that you don't want to miss for dinner--the plan is definitly making them busier than they were before.

Thank you for the reviews....sounds like you had a great time.
I am going to play devils advocate here and ask some questions?? :)
Do you think as the dining plan continues they will begin to crack down on the adult meal child meal difference? It seems as if every review I read people are getting all adult meals even when they have paid for two adults and two children or even three children. I have also read several reviews where people are paying out of pocket for table service meals and doing signature restaurants so using the 2 TS meals for the adults.....when again they have paid for 2 adults and 2 children...you get the idea.
NOW I am not saying these people are bad or anything like that...people are only doing what Disney has thus far allowed. I am just making the observation that if everyone manipulates the system to their benefit that eventually Disney will lose money and they will enforce the rules (as they obviously are at Tusker House). Just from the last few reviews I have read related to service at the TS restaurants I wonder if the wait staff is starting to see some these issues crop up.
We are seriously thinking about the dining plan and would utilize just as the original poster did by doing 2 breakfasts and 2 CS lunch or dinner with the TS thrown in during the day. I am just wondering if the plan will still be the same when we go in December?

DH and I had this same conversation on our way home. It would not suprise us at all if Disney took this loophole out for the table service. As I have stated, Disney isn't stupid, if they don't want people to do this, they will stop it.
I believe I read in an old post (and if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me) that the old, silver, and gold plans, that all credits were lumped together then too, and Disney never changed it, so perhaps they realize, that families will be happier with more flexibility. You do have to remember that getting the families into more table service = more revenue from additional cash meals, and alcohol etc.

As for the counter service- The cashiers were the ones suggesting to us to go ahead and get adult meals. Often, I was ordering kids meals, because that is what my girls wanted, and most times, the cashier suggested to go ahead, and get the adult meals.

Who knows what the plan will be like by Dec. or even next week??

I must have missed something because I don't understand why are people so surprised that they are not being allowed to break rules. If you are entitled to and have paid for 2 adults and 1 child then that is what you should receive. I would say that is pretty clear!! I'm not saying that I never break rules, I just don't always assume I'm going to get away with it!!

Edited to add: After I posted this I realized that I had in fact missed something. I didn't realize that the dining plan did not limit how many of your meals you use in one day as long as you don't go over the total # of meals you have paid for . So sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought about deleting my post but figured it was too late!!

Mady/Sophiemom I too think Disney is probably making a lot more money in the long run on the plan since people who would otherwise not have eaten at a Table service place now are. Also I wonder if in the long run people who are not obsessed with planning like we are end up not utilizing the plan.

We found that it was easy to get priority seatings the day or a day before you wanted to go as long as you had a few choices for them to check. We knew when we were going to Epcot's Extra Magic Hours we wanted to eat close to there so we had them check a few resturants at the Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts.

I was happily surprised with how easy Priority seating was to get honestly. Of course for character things you need to do it way in advance.

don't worry. disney will make money. that is what they do best. and i don't mind donating. in fact, i promise to drink enough beer and wine, disney won't mind if i sneak an adult CS where it should have been a child's. at $5-$10 for a beer, i figure our bar tab will rival any dinner we would pay for at home. but hey, after a long day with my sticky, sweaty children, i deserve a cold one. besides, we will be taking the monorail home!!
