We have read mixed reviews about this place. We are thinking of booking this for our wedding anniversary on October, Just wanted to know what the food is like, prices and cleanliness?

Any info would help.

Thankyou

I love it. The atmosphere is one of the best anywhere, the food is good, sometimes a little too small portions but still good, moderately priced. Impeccable on the cleaniness. Good choice for any nice occasion.

Mythos has been rated the #1 theme park restaurant in the world a few years running. They did have a low period for a while with different chefs, but apparently they're getting back to the high quality they're known for.

I'd definitely reccomend it

We've eaten there only once. It was nice. The food was great, but the portions are a bit small. Not a large selection of choices either. I'd definitely go there again. Not a place for a quiet romantic dinner though, if that's what you'd like for your anniversary.

The problem I see with the mixed reviews, is because someone may go there, order sea food or a fancy steak, and expect it to be the best. There's no way you're going to get great sea food in a park restaurant, considering how many people they serve. Good food, yes. Great seafood, no. I mean, look at the reviews for Bubba Gumps. People say it's ok, but nothing to write home about. Simple foods like salads, the wrap of the day, and cowboy burger are a good choice at Mythos. If you set the bar too high, then you'll be let down. Here's a picture of the menu taken on June 14th.

I really have had great seafood at Mythos. Great scallops and when they used to have the Corvina it was WONDERFUL!
We usually eat there a couple times whenever we visit US. It's one of our favorites.
As stated above, it's not a "romantic" type of place though. You might want to look into Emeril's Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific for your anniversary dinner.

...about Mythos is the way they've continually "dumbed down" the menu over the years. There are fewer special dishes (like the corvina) than there used to be.

I think the best bets are the pastabilities special and the risotto of the day. These are often great. I've never felt the portiuons were too small, but that may be because this is a place where I regularly have three courses: appetizer, entree, and dessert.

Oh yes, about dessert. The only one worth having is the chocolate banan gooey cake. They used to have about five GREAT desserts. Then they went to these trendy mini-desserts in a shot glass. They do great things for the restaurant's profit margins but leave me cold.

I always order the risotto of the day and I have never been disappointed. Always great :thumbsup2

I totally agree with this! I miss the corvina! Last time I was there the scallops werent on the menu, are they again? Lately I stick with the risotto, its always amazing.

To add to the OP, check the hours before you plan a dinner here. Oct they may close at 3.

When we ate there back in '01, they had an awesome coffee crusted filet. It was just amazing. And they had a different "chocolate sampler" back then that was just to die for. I remember a chocolate pyramid as one of the things on the sampler, along with a chocoate creme brulee and some other things. Yee gods, it was the best meal I've ever had in a theme park by far.

On a completely different note...we ate at Emerils, too. The food was great...except for the hair my wife found in her risotto...TWICE. Needless to say, they comped our entire meal, which was nice of them. And the food really was very good.

Oh Boy! That would be enough to convince me to plan another trip to Universal! :Pinkbounc

I have great hopes since: 1) Chef Mark is back, 2) having met Shannon and had a conversation with her, i believe she with Chef Mark can make some things happen.

I guess while Vinney was in charge the corporate line was followed. Chef Mark is not afraid to go outside the corporate line, but with Shannon there to help push the corporate line closer to where she and Chef Mark think it should be, i believe we will have some very pleasent ongoing surprises in the ongoing future. :smooth:

I so hope you are right :) I've always loved Mythos (when I lived in Orlando, I'd usually go at least once a month)...but the past year or so I've been a little disappointed...every single time. :( (especially the burger...and the mashed potatos... :( ) But I still adore the ceasar salad :) I look foward to seeing a new menu when I vist again in October... :)

I finally went to Mytho's last week. I thought it was pretty good. I expected it to be a little bit better by the hype it's gotten. I got the Grilled Chicken Club, and then one of the shotglass deserts. Both were good, the deserts leave you wanting more.

My complaint was the fries. They were like, shoestring fries. Very little of them also. Ah, still better then any other theme park restaraunt.

We felt like many of the PP. We used to think Mythos was a great place to eat. The cedar plank salmon was wonderful. Our last visit in July was very disappointing. Among other things that weren't up to par, the salmon wasn't even the same.

I can attest to the fact that Shannon will definitely try and push the corporate line as far as she can, but ultimately, and changes or decisions are made by three people not directly associated with Mythos-1) The Head Chef in charge of all OU restaurants (good guy, very knowldegable, responsible for most of the success the UO foods division has enjoyed over the last decade), 2) The UO sous chef (pain in the ***, loves to constantly bag others ideas, the opposite of a visionary), 3) the VP in charge of foods (very intelligent from a monetary standpoint, but cost concious to the point that quality/service can suffer. She would also be responsible for Shannon's promotion, so she does have my gratitude for that decision).

So, my point being, Shannon and Mark may have grandiose visions of what can and can't be, but after all is said and done, any changes have to be dissected ad nauseum, then approved. This is why you don't see change more often on UO menus.

I also have been disapoointed with the changes in the menu, except I did try the loster stuffed potato last fall and it was very good. I wish they would bring back the Gnocci. The rissito is always very good.
