Mystery Woman w/Teddy Bears at Grand Floridian Mystery Solved!!

I have been o the Grand Floridian 3 times and I have never had the pleasure and the first time I was there for 8 days. Good for her spending time there, I fI was close and had free time I would be there all the time too, Hubby sayds that when the kids are grown and have moved away, he wants to work there, there isn't a better place to be, your sister has great taste in where she chooses to spend her time. And how sweet handing out teddy bears.

I have been to WDW several times, but never to the GF. I hope we get to spend more time olutside the parks this time, just visiting resorts. I loved walking around BW last June. I will plant o look for her in June 2009 just to say hi. Is there a particular time she is around?

As for visitors in hotel lobbies that are not guests, we are used to it around here I think. In Memphis, if we go eat downtown, we made a a point of going to the Peabody to sit and listen to the pianist and maybe see the ducks make their trek. I wouldn't have thought anything about your sister other than thinking maybe she was reliving memories.

Of course, I don't think I've ever met a stranger. I'm one of those people that loves meeting people at WDW and always talk to the people around me. I'm fascinated in talking to the CM's and hearing where they are from and how they got there. I had a great conversation with a lady from Canada at the gift shop at Typhoon Lagoon when we all had to take shelter in a thunderstorm.

Just out of curiosity, would she like being addressed by name(Hello Lynne!), or would that be too weird?

Not weird at all. Lynn would love meeting you. :)

Best Wishes,

Joan

I have been to GF on MANY ocassions and have never seen her.. :confused3 Where does she sit? I would love to come over and say Hello.. I am a HUGE teddy bear addict myself.. Working for Build a Bear how can you not??

Tracy, your sister Lynn sounds lovely. Reading the posts here it seems she has brought smiles to those that have encountered her at GF. Although I have not had the pleasure to meet her myself she has made me smile and you have as well. Thanks so much for sharing.

tracy, how did you hear about the Dis and your sister being the subject of that thread?

I've read about your sister a few times here - good for her she's finding happiness in a way that suits her! DH and I always say that for the first few years we're retired, we want to live as close as possible to WDW and hang out there all the time. I'm sure we'll find a favorite spot too and become fixtures! What fun!

I was taking a break from the MK at the GF on Nov 15th. I was sitting in the lobby and I saw an older lady crocheting sitting on a couch. Now I wonder if this was the lady you all are talking about?

We stayed there in May and saw her a couple of times in the lobby. I think she just adds to the charm of the place.

Hi Stacy. Hopefully, the other people will tell you where she sits. I am in Nashville, TN, so am not there with her.

I know she sits downstairs from where the orchestra is, if that is any help, in an end chair along the wall, as opposed to one out in the lobby, etc.

She should flip out over where you work!!! : )

You ladies should have a LOT to talk about!!

Best Wishes,

Joan

A friend of Lynn's told me about people writing about her on some website, who were very curious as to who she was.....so, I googled "woman with teddybears at Grand Floridian Hotel, and this site came up. That was last July, and I SO wanted to answer everyone's questions, but I never had any luck joining and getting in to answer, until my oldest son was here over the Christmas holidays last month/year!

I also wanted to tell a couple of funny stories about Lynn, but have to type when Mr. Arther Itis will allow. He has been quite stingy for awhile now.

I hope you and your husband find the perfect place at Disney to spend your time and days.

Best Wishes,

Joan

Tracy, thank you so much for sharing about your wonderful sister!! I, like a previous poster, had my own idea of why your sister was there alone. There are places that my husband and I go that make us both giddy with happiness. I had imagined that your sister had found quite immeasurable joy going to the GF with her husband, children, and her bears, and had returned with her bears after her dear husband was gone and her children were grown. I could see her sitting there running back through all the happy times they had shared there. Oh, the memories she would have!!!

I hope your sister continues to enjoy all there is to offer at the GF!! I'm sure Walt would be quite happy to sit and discuss bears with her as I would too!

No, I wasn't referring to you at all. Truthfully, I don't think I ever read the other thread that everyone is referring to.

I was merely stating my impression from the times I have wandered through there.

DH & I will sometimes do the "hotel tour" on the monorail...we do the Poly, the Contemporary and the GF. I have often found that there is an air of "haughtiness" at the GF that I don't find at the others...sometimes even from the CMs. Certain shops that I go into in the GF...well, I get a look like from the CMs like "You can't possibly think that we believe you can afford to shop here, can you?".

It could also just be me, and it could be the loveliest place in the world. But truthfully, the area of CT I live in has its share of snobs (Fairfield County, about an hour north of NYC) so my "snob radar" is usually pretty accurate. You see, I grew up in the urban area, but with a lot of blood, sweat and tears, my parents sent me to parochial school in the local suburban town, so a lot of the kids I went to school with were far more "well-to-do" than us financially, so I was often exposed to snobs. They are pretty easy to spot.

I know you were stating your impression, Disney Doll. I'm not going to knock it. Mine is just the opposite though. We're laid back and down to earth. We've stayed at the GF a handful of times. Maybe we're oblivious. I don't know. We love the resort. We go where we want to go, buy what we want to buy, smile and we are on our way. I have a pretty good "snob radar" too, but we haven't experienced any snags. Just wanted to share another experience and perspective.

Tracy J, I'm glad I saw your post! I have seen your sister in the lobby of the GF, near the elevator by Parke Fair. I think I noticed the bags first. There were quite a few clear plastic bags full of stuffed animals. I didn't know they were bears. We were walking rather briskly I'm sure, heading to some destination. :) It didn't bother me that she was there. But I did notice her and it's nice to know more about her. :)

Tracy!

Glad I caught you up, I would love to hear more stories about Lynn. I feel I forgot to mention something about Bruce, I heard he got his hair cut at the barber shop on the second floor???
Okay, here is a story I promised about Lynn. She and Bruce were in the Kingdom one day, and while Lynn was resting on a bench, Bruce went to get them both something to drink. While Bruce was gone, Lynn noticed a man across the way staring at her. He never looked away, just kept staring. It started making Lynn VERY uncomfortable, as it would any woman, and she thought about calling Security, but Bruce finally arrived back with the drinks. Lynn immediately told him about the man and told him where he still was. Bruce looked and said, "Lynn, the ONLY thing over there is a Statue!! (Lynn has always been rather vain about wearing eye glasses.) I would have given almost ANYTHING if Lynn has just gone ahead before Bruce got back and called security!!! LOL!! : )

Hope you enjoyed this story. I have a few more. BTW, sorry, but I have no idea about Bruce and where he got his haircuts, since I wasn't there. Is that where you get yours?

Best Wishes,
Joan

What a great story!!! That really made me laugh!!

My dh is 42 and has needed glasses to read for 2 years, and he literally just put them on for the first time yesterday! They've been sitting in their case for 2 years, because he just didn't want to give in to the fact he needs glasses. My mom (in her 60's) does the same thing for years now. She can't see anything close w/out them, but never ever has them with her. I guess a lot of people are like that :)

Hi Tracy.

We leave tomorrow for a week at Disney (2 Days at Animal Kingdom Villas, and the rest at the Grand Floridian), I will be sure to say hi to your sister every day.

For those of you that are wondering, she sits in an end chair behind the half wall next to the piano player.

Thanks for telling us about your sister She sounds like a wonderful person and I would love to meet her someday. I personally do not understand how she could offend anyone. :confused3 The only time I have ever been offended by another guest at WDW was when they were screaming and cussing rather loudly at another guest and my young daughter could hear it all. No, I dont think a nice woman with teddy bears would offend me at all!

No, it wasn't Lynn. She doesn't crochette.
