Myrtle or Virginia Beach for family of 5 -Hotels?

We are trying to plan our summer vacation. We are mom, dad and three DS's and 10, 6 and 6. We have been to Virginia beach pre-kids. We want to be ocean front and need at least 2 queen beds, though a suite with a kitchenette would be great. Any suggestions on hotels would be great and we plan on spending 5-7 nights($150 range? maybe a package).

I highly recommend the Virginia Beach Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort at 39th Street--pool view (standard) rooms are fine as they offer partial oceanview for a lot less money (although totally oceanfront is obviously better). They have a large, really nice outdoor pool with tiki bar for the adults

Although they don't have kitchenettes (that I'm aware of), since it's Holiday Inn, Kids Eat Free (and you don't cook!!!) They also have a spectacular FREE kids club (big screen TV for video games, great atmosphere), and they added an indoor lazy river (I just visited again recently--loved that lazy river).

There is a Marine Science Museum in VA Beach, and in nearby Portsmouth, there is an awesome kids museum that all your kids would love if you encounter a rainy day. This hotel is actually my favorite in the winter, too, as they have an indoor pool with two hot tubs, kids eat free, and the kids club is open Friday and Saturday from 10-6 (so as a single mom, I get a wonderful break to kick back in the room AND my son has a great time, too!)
I would recommend you join Holiday Inn Priority Club (free) as this particular hotel gives candy at check-in and also offers late checkout! Enjoy (and no, I'm not paid by them--I just think their hotel is top-notch awesome!!)

Myrtle Beach also has the Holliday Inn sunspree resort and they do have suites. It is awsome and where we almost always stay.

We used to go to Mrytle Beach every year but it got too crowded. We now go to FRipp Island!!! Great place If you love the beach and ocean and no crowds!

When we lived in Norfolk my parents would stay at The Dolphin Inn in Va Beach and they never had any complaints. It is right on the ocean and it has 2 rooms. I think the room had 2 beds and then in the other area there was sofa bed. It also had a kitchenette.

Thanks for all the responses. Off to look to see if any of them have web sites. The Sunspree was the one I was trying to talk my husband into. We visited the Marine Science Museum and know our boys would love it.

We recommend The Dayton House on Myrtle Beach. look at their site. There are several ppols a small lazy river a zero entry pool and hot tubs on the beach with a kitchenette too.

We usually alternate between WDW and Myrtle Beach every other year. When we go to Myrtle Beach we stay at the Kingston Plantation, Embassy Suites. It has a king size bed in one bedroom and two twins in the other. It also has two bathrooms, a living room/dining room and a kitchen. It's not right on the beach, but in those rooms, (the villa complex in which they're located is called Windermere by the Sea) you're about a 3 minute walk from the beach and a one minute walk from the pools. It can get pricey but is worth it.

We were just to Myrtle Beach this past summer and loved it. However, we are campers (ok, if you call it camping...our trailer has AC, garden tub, tv/dvd and is 40' long!) We stayed at the Myrtle Beach Travel Park and really enjoyed it. If you're up for that type of thing, I know they have trailers they rent. Camping right on the beach is GREAT!!!

I want to go back this summer, but hubby says west, go west young man so I guess it's Texas for us.

HEY, I live about an hour and a half from Myrtle Beach and we go 2 or 3 time a year or so but never in the summer. We go and always stay at the Patricia Grand. High rise hotel. Its very nice and reasonable. Suites, kitchenettes whatever you want and its basically a straight shot to Broadway at the beach and the mall. We enjoy it....if you go to Myrtle Beach research the hotels cause its a big spring break spot and some of the hotels are for that reason they have been trying to change it to families....but spring breaks, sun fun in early July, bike week and black bike week it get messed up pretty good with the high crowd levels....but its a great place if you can avoid peak times

We love Myrtle Beach! We used to always go to Ocean City MD, but we found Myrtle Beach to be much cheaper and more kid friendly. We usually stay in a condo at Crescent Shores. Last year we stayed one night at the Sea Mist resort to try it out to see if it would be ok for the whole family. I had read so many mixed reviews. It has tons of stuff to do for the kids, water park, playground, several indoor and outdoor pools, planned activities. They are remodeling it, so some parts are better than others. They have a website. It was not as nice as Crescent Shores, but more kid friendly, I would love to stay there longer.

Myrtle Beach has so many things to do. They have a Ripley's Aquarium, Alligator Adventure, Dixie Stampede, Go Carts, Miniature Golf, Amusement Parks, Water Parks, and on and on.

In Myrtle Beach we like to stay at the Beach Cove Resort. Two queen beds, small (two burner stove fridge) kitchen area, sleeper sofa. All of their rooms are beachfront and they have lots of pools and a lazy river. Good Luck!
