We plan on going to MB after our DC trip in late August 2017. We have stayed at the Dunes Village, Ocean Reef and the Sheraton Plantation. We found Dunes Villages over run and tired. Ocean Reef was okay but there appeared to be non paying guests using the facilities and The Plantation was fab but it is not oceanfront.

We would like to stay in oceanfront accommodations, with at least a fridge, and stove. Since it will be hot the only other criteria would be a outdoor pool.

Looking for something in the $150 range.

I have read many reviews on trip advisor but must say the respondents on DIS boards are the best for honest opinions on everything.

We love The Breakers. There are several outdoor pools, hot tubs, and a lazy river. It's beachfront with lots of restaurants within walking distance and a short drive to Broadway at the Beach.

I live in Pawleys Island -- about 20 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. I recommend getting out of the heart of Myrtle Beach. There's a fantastic resort with oceanfront accommodations in Pawleys -- Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort. Life is a little quieter down here on the South Strand. :-)

Just got back from a stay at The Water's Edge Resort in Garden City booked through VRBO but think you can book directly. $177/night for 1BD, full kitchen, washer dryer, in/out pool, hot tub, steps from beach. Awesome view. All was clean. Felt safe in area. Groceries/some restaurants within a mile. First time we've been to the area in 10 years.

Curious to watch this thread. We just returned from a 2 night stay there and we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Kingston Plantation. The breakfast was great but the rest of the hotel was not like a typical Embassy. We're looking for other options for next time.

We LOVE North Beach Plantation but it's definitely more than $150 a night.

Sens the very last week of August is quite cheap.. In comparison to earlier in the summer. I am concerned with the areas to avoid as we would like to be able to walk at night

As someone who lives in the region, I wouldn't stay in Myrtle Beach now. Violence and crime are, unfortunately, a reality. We're south of Myrtle in Pawleys Island. Pawleys, Surfside and even North Myrtle would be better choices, at least in my opinion.

Also looking for myrtle beach recommendations. Family of 4, sometime in July. Preferably right on the ocean

Look into the Caribbean Beach resort in MB. Have stayed there twice and it's awesome right on the sand. They usually run. 30-40% off promotion.

I went in April and stayed at Myrtle Beach Resort (which is just south of MB)...HIGHLY recommend it! They are condo/timeshare - we rented off of HomeEscape. It was CHEAP...And had 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen, nice balcony. The resort has a lazy river, great outdoor pool right next to the beach and a bar/snack shack on the beach that has food and karaoke every night. There are also tennis courts and indoor pools as well. We went up to MB to parasail one day and I found the beach in the 'main strip' of MB to be not nearly as nice as where we were...It was narrower/dirtier. I loved where we stayed. We saved a lot of money - Walmart right across the street so had breakfasts in the room and then brought drinks, snacks, etc to the beach every day. Bring a good rolling cooler with you.

I just got back from Coral Beach resort but if you didn't like Dunes Village you wouldn't like it here. I think it's more expensive than Dumes and I think it is showing it's age even more than Dunes. We also have stayed at Compass Cove which we thought was ok.

Where are the crime areas in Myrtke Beach? We're staying at the Marriott in Grand Dunes. We usually visit Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach and never felt it was unsafe.

There's been a lot of incidents at Broadway at the Beach at night -- robberies, etc. I go there during the day but not at night anymore. The shootings, etc. have taken place on Ocean Blvd for the most part.
