My wife and I just made it through the early registration for Marathon Weekend 2016 (successfully)!! I'm doing the half marathon, which I think is bad enough, but my wife is the crazy one signing up for the Dopey Challenge! I've tried to talk her out of it several times before registration, but she is dead set on it, so now that she paid for it, I'll be cracking the whip on her training schedule. I'll probably have to get a wheel chair to get her back to BWV from the finish line(s), but she says the 6 medals she'll get for running the 48.6 miles in 4 days will make all the pain worth it. In reality, I'm proud of her for signing up, and will be even more proud at the end of it all.

Your right, your wife is crazy. :rotfl2: J/K... I'm a runner myself and would not even entertain the idea. Good luck to the both of you:thumbsup2

My husband and I just signed up this morning for Dopey, too!! We've done it the last 2 years and my mom has done the half with me. You both will have a blast! Staying at BWV too :)

I had the pleasure of cheering on my DNiece in the Dopey challenge this past January. Now she is in her early 20's but has not run many races. She not only made it through all four races, but we went to Magic Kingdom after the marathon (the last race of the weekend) and stayed until closing time of 11pm. It truly is an amazing experience for the participants and their families. :)

I completed the Goofy challenge before Dopey started. I recommend that it not be a trip with many visits to the parks. I trained heavily and took several extra precautions on race weekend to reduce the chance of not completing the challenge. I recommend booking a massage about an hour after she thinks she will be back to BWV on the morning of the half marathon. Book early because they will fill up quickly if not already. I am not sure if she takes ice baths, but that could also help the morning right after the half.

I missed out on my race sign ups (we're hoping to do the 10k) but will try again at regular signup time. I did get our kids enrolled in the kids races! If we don't get the 10k we'll probably be joining you at the half ... ugh.... but I really don't think we're up for that! We train to walk them at a 14 mile rate and then run a little if we can.

There is a reason why they call it "Dopey" lol.

Only kidding, good luck to both of you. Im hoping to do my first race, although unofficial, at Castaway Cay doing the 5K in September.

Lots of crazy people here! DH will be the 64 yo man at the finish line, like Chevy Chase in "Vacation" going "This is crazy, this is crazy!" He used to run marathons 30 years ago, and I think he wants to prove to himself that he can still do it. At least he's training for it, even though Jeff Galloway, the runner whose training recommendations he's following, is from DH's generation! Dopey happens to be DH's favorite character, and I heard that he'll be at the finish line of every race. So I'm teasing DH that now I know the REAL reason he's running-to see Dopey 4 times! Now to choose our resort. We've got OKW booked, so to decide if we should switch to BCV at 7 months. BCV is so convenient, but OKW is so restful and is DH's favorite resort.
