Saturday 5/12

We went on our first ride of the trip the "Great Plane Ride" sponsored by American Airlines. This was the longest ride both in the duration of time and the distance travelled. Boarding at LaGuardia airport was simple enough, I played the role of wannabe terrorist and got padded down by the security guard, then we got into our seats 10D and 10F on a very real looking MD80. The poor unfortunate soul who managed to get assigned a seat between the two of us never did show. I was disappointed with lack of video display but we did get lovely consolation snack bags with a nutrigrain bar, banana, yougurt, and orange juice. As we spent most of our ride above the clouds bored out of our mind we found consolation in the People and Newsweek magazines we picked up beforehand, choosing to bypass the exciting airline litterature. After two hours and some odd minutes we landed, on land, alive, and not too shaken and they even managed to bring my wheelchair to me in one piece...a feet they would not be able to repeat. What a ride!

If you follow the people on your flight just make sure you don't follow the stupid people as stupid us spent 10 minutes standing around at the wrong bag claim carousel until I spotted our big striped bag going round and round 3 carousels away and DM ran over to retrieve it. We then went to our Priceline.com assigned rental company Budget Rent-A-Car, where we were given a choice between a Ford Focus and a Mitsubishi Somethingorother...giving the guy at the counter two blank stares, he realized he was dealing with two total car spazs and asked me if I wanted a red car or a gold car. I chose gold and off we went with the keys to a Ford Focus.

Let it be known when someone says gold in referrence to a Ford Focus they mean mustard, "OH MY GOD IT'S MUSTARD!" said I when I got a look at the car we'd affectionately call the mustard mobile for the rest of the vacation. We get all of our things into the car and then DM sits down behind the wheel and asks me how do I signal the turns? Like I drive! So she pulls out slowly and carefully and asks random guy who shows her how to do it laughing all the while. We somehow manage to get to the hotel in one piece, how I don't know since DM has never driven in Florida before nor has she been on a real highway in over a year.

Ahh there it is the Sheraton World written so big on the hotel tower that only a blind person can miss. Our home sweet home for the next 7 days. Check in was quick, our room spacious with a great of view of ... our mustard mobile, oh well what ya gonna do needed an accessible room and this is where they are. It was 4:00 pm by the time we got everything sorted out and unpacked, we were quite hungry so we decided to head to Max's Deli an on property self-serve overpriced disgusting little place. We decided to try it out so I ordered a New York Style Roastbeef sandwich...which to my horror the counter girl made with 2 pieces of icky wonderbread style bread (I guess they've never heard of rolls) and about 50 slices of roast beef...no self respecting deli operator in New York would serve such an attrocity and to call it New York Style well it just gives a bad name to true New York delis. For that horror of a sandwich we paid $8!!!

After taking a late afternoon dip in the pool our eating experience changed drastically. In search for some decent food and some yummies to have in the fridge we wandered across the street into a gas station convenience store where we bought some snackies and then we noticed the little shopping strip next to the gas station. Seeing the marquees from a distance we thought we'd try out the Chinese restaurant only to find it brimming full with a wedding reception. Walking on over we came to a lovely little place called Flippers pizza which served what I find to be the best pizza I've ever eaten anywhere, including New York. DM and I got a medium cheese pizza to share which we ate on one of the patios in our resort with a lovely nighttime view of the pool.

Off to bed we went---tomorrow Downtown Disney and Cirque du Soleil.
