My vent for the day

Excuse me, but I just need to let off some steam.
I went to the store after work today to pick up some random items that I needed. I'm making my classes little gift bags for Halloween so I picked up a few bags of candy too. $40 later I walk out of the store, drive home and :headache: realize that all of my items are not in the bag. The store has those bucket things that they have to put the bags in to deactivate the sensors so I'm assuming that the bag was still in there.

I call the store and after putting me on hold 3 times while they look for the bag, the guy comes back on the phone and says, "sorry we can't find it." Umm, okay, but I'm now without all the bags of candy that I bought. I asked to speak to a manager who told me that I can call back tomorrow to see if anyone found it.

I explained that I was just there 5 minutes ago and I believe the cashier did not hand me all the bags. I would just like to get the candy that I paid for. He told me that he can't authorize "giving away" merchandise and it will take a couple of weeks for it to go through corporate.

So I guess on Friday I explain to the kids that I had planned to make them bags, but they can expect them sometime in late November instead. :lmao:

What store was this? If it were me I would be making a trip back there and throwing a fit on the manager and the cashier.

It was a Cost Cutters store in NJ (don't know if they are everywhere)
The manager was very rude when I called. I told him I wanted to speak to someone higher than him since I was getting nowhere with him and he gave me the corp. number. This all happened at a little after five, so of course nobody was there when I called. I left a message, so hopefully the person will call me back tomorrow. The rest of the merchandise is sitting by my back door, because if I don't get the stuff I paid for, the rest of it is going back.

I agree with the PP. Publix all you have to say is it wasn't in my bag and it is given to you no questions asked.

Same with Walmart. One time I bought some bookends and got home to find out I didn't get them. I went back and had to get them off the shelf where they'd been put back...

there is a cost cutters near my house and they are always so rude there! good luck!

I would have marched right back to the store and talked to the cashier who rang me up. Then the manager would have heard from me! No way should you let them get away with that!

They really shouldn't have been rude to you. It sounds like that manager wasn't trained properly to deal with customer service.

I guess it's a tough situation. If they looked around, asked the cashier, and really couldn't find your merchandise, I can see how they might be weary, especially if they have been ripped off before. However, you would like to think that they would give you the benefit of the doubt. Either way, there should be a protocol for dealing with issues like this and clearly the manager didn't know it.

yes it's frustrating...and just being a couple bags of candy....as the retail store, I woulda just given it to you..
Whats sad now...particularly around the holidays, people run scams like this alot. Of course, they usually say we left out the digital camera, or the gold earrings or something of that nature.... dont think anyone would be stealin candy..... :lmao:

Oh how frustrating! I don't have any Cost Cutters near me, but this happened to me at Giant - a few times actually. They are usually pretty good about holding the things that they find were left behind, or giving me replacement items for the ones they claim they can't find (where do those bags of unclaimed groceries go?!?)

Once it was a bag of frozen foods. I went back to Giant about an hour later get the bag they missed, and they insisted everything was kept in their freezer til I got there. I was so livid, when I got home things were thawed out - and I was afraid they'd go bad. I didn't want to call the manager back that I had just dealt with, he wasn't Mr. Nice Guy to begin with, so I went on their website & complained (nicely but firmly). I got a call the next day to come pick up my $25 store gift card as an apology! So don't back down on your call to corporate - email them too if you can.

Ask them to review the security tapes. The time stamp on your receipt should give them a definite time frame to look in and see what happened to your missing items.

I was actually going to go back to the store, but it was pouring out yesterday so I called first to let them know that my items were missing.

My update is a positive one. I called the district manager's office and he wasn't in his office so I talked to his secretary. I told her the story and she couldn't believe that the manager wouldn't give me the items. She called the district manager and within the hour I received a call from the original store manager that I talked to yesterday. I guess the district manager told him to call me. I asked for him when I went into the store but he wasn't there so I got my missing items and one of the cashiers okayed it. My bag was probably given to the customer behind me.

Believe me, I'm not a candy bandit. If I was interested in scamming the store, there was something more expensive that I bought than bags of candy.

Not only was he rude, it looks like a coward too.

Glad you were able to get back your missing items.

I had that happen to me one time at Target. I called the store and went right back, but they already re stocked my stuff. So I had to get new stuff. UGH! I had about a dozen cards so I had to go back and find them all again. It was such a bother. But they were helpful. I just wish they hadn't re stocked my stuff so fast. It was only like 15 mins from the time I left to the time I called. I even know who helped me and which check stand. Oh well, I got my cards.

I don't understand why these stores restock the stuff so quickly. It will only be a matter of hours(if not minutes) before someone realizes they are missing a bag and calls in to report it.

That would have frustrated me, I hate picking out cards once, nevermind twice!
