I just returned from a wonderful trip to the world last week. We tried the DDP for the first time, and overall I was very happy with it. The only real problem is with the children's menu choices.
Our DS4 is a somewhat picky eater, but he eats very healthy food at home. The problem for us is that he doesn't like a lot of typical kids foods like mac and cheese or PB and J. So, his choices were very limited.
Using the DDP with counter service was especially bad for us in the Magic Kingdom. It seems as though Starlight Rays is the only place that has chicken nuggets on the kids menu. We went to the Columbia House one day and the only thing on the menu that was remotely close to being something he would like was the "cold chicken and cheese." Sounds appetizing.
This just struck me as funny for a restaurant that specializes in fried chicken and seafood. He ate the celery and carrot sticks, but wasn't thrilled with the cold chicken. I wouldn't be either.
One evening at Olivia's he had the pizza meal, took two bites of the pizza and said it was terrible. I tasted it and he was right, it was awful. No flavor.
Anyway, the result of these choices was that we ended up spending a lot of time trying to find places that had food that he liked. Granted, he is one of the few kids that won't eat a hamburger, which would have helped a bit, but I would be willing to bet that the chicken nugget is the golden standard of children's food. I have yet to meet a child that didn't like them. These should be a standard offering at all the Disney restaurants. (I seem to recall that they used to be...)
My feeling is that Disney forcing kids to eat healthy on Disney property is a bit ridiculous. If a child has unhealthy eating habits at home, then is a week of eating cold chicken and cheese with celery sticks going to change that? The kids are on vacation also. My kids eat well at home and shouldn't be subjected to "diet food" while on vacation any more than I should. I think the option for the "healthier" options should be there, but not at the exclusion of the standard kid's fare.
Otherwise it was a great trip!
I just hope that they bring back the old menues before we return, otherwise I might not use the plan.
