Hi!

So my 7 yr old broke his leg last night and we are supposed to leave for the world in 28 days :sad2: We find out tomorrow if surgery is needed but either way he will be in a cast from his thigh to his toes for six weeks. If we still go, will he be able to fit in the rides with that cast? This is his first trip and we have been planning this for a year - ugh. I don't really want to postpone but if he can't enjoy it then maybe I should. Any thoughts?

I only have a few minutes since it is so late, but a long leg cast would make things pretty hard to go on.
Getting on many attractions involve steps up or down to get in and out. There is more information/descriptions in some posts on page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

If it was your umpteenth trip to WDW, I would probably say to go, but I think for a first trip, it would be better to go later when he will be abl to enjoy himself more.

I agree with Sue. Disney is pretty good about rescheduling things for people. There may be a change fee on the flights if you are flying, but it would be worth it for him to get the most out of his trip!

The inability to bend his knee would make most rides very difficult if not impossible. Also, the vibrations from the rides would probably cause him discomfort if not outright pain from movement at the fracture site. You might talk to his orthopod to ask about any issues he might see.

If you do go, you might want to talk to the person who will be removing the cast. Have a line drawn on the cast where it will be cut for removal. Then bring along some "Sharpies" and have the characters autograph the cast, asking them to make sure their signature does not directly cross the line.

Once the cast is removed and fully dried out, you will then have a very unusual souvenir of the trip.

another thing to think about is how are you traveling to WDW. will he be able to fit in seat and keep leg straight? this could be a bigger problem than what rides he can go on. as hard as it will be to postpone trip will probabily the best for all.

Reschedule. He won't be able to enjoy many activities, it will be very difficult traveling if his leg can't bend, and he may be in pain. Wait until the cast is off.
