Cast of Characters: Just me - it was a solo trip.

Got there late on Wednesday May 18th. Did not get to Pop Century until 11pm - and was hungry. After checking in - hit the Pop Century Food Court. Ordered Peperoni Pizza and the cheesecake with chocolate and marshmello topping. Pizza was blah - no real taste and pretty greasy. Cheesecake was the highlight of my evening.

Thursday: Had lunch at Le Cellier - a personal favorate of mine. I had Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup and the server suggested I dipped the pretzel bread in the soup. For an entree I had 7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbeque sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes. The food was execellent and the service was very good - my server was very attentive and chatty - a nicety since I was sitting there alone waiting for my food.

Had dinner in Downtown Disney at Earl of Sandwich. The wait was not too horrible - about 10 minutes of standing in line before ordering. I had The Full Montagu and a Banana & Chocolate Smoothie. The food was hot and fresh - another excellent resturant. Service was timely for a counter service resturant.

Friday: Breakfast was at Boma. One of my favorite places to eat - either breakfast or dinner. Normal fare was on the buffet and I sampled everything that piqued my interest. I had a pressed pot of Kenyan Coffee as well - it is a lot of coffee for one person to drink!!! An older couple sat at the table next to me - and I could see the woman looking and looking at my press pot of coffee. When it came time to pay the bill - I asked the cast member if I could offer the lady my half of pot of coffe - he agreed - and she was thrilled!! She told me she her interest was because she did not know how I had gotten the coffee - because she is a coffee lover. I was glad to perk up her day. Food was excellent and service was wonderful.

Dinner: Crystal Palace I showed up early for my PS and still had to wait over 30 minutes. They kept turning folks away saying the resturant was booked solid for the night. The food on the buffet was only so-so. There was a 'community' whipped butter bowl - that had a LOT of other food in it ... bleech. Nothing outstanding - pork roast and prime rib - a couple of different salads - beets (who really eats beets??) - spoonbread (cornbread stuffing) - a pasta dish with cheese and mushrooms. The dessert table - had tiramsu, banana bread pudding (dry), cheesecake with red velvet cake crust (again dry) and brownies. I was not very happy with my server either - he had no real interest in making sure my drink was filled or to see if I needed anything. Very little character interaction either - maybe because there was no kiddos at my table. Probably my second worst meal of the entire trip for both food quality and service quality.

Saturday: Lunch at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe. I ordered Cheese Ravioli - stuffed with ricotta, mascarpone and parmesan cheeses, thyme, oregano, tomato-basil-garlic sauce. The server (who was very helpful) suggested I also order a 'side' salad - a spinach salad - I asked for the dressing on the side. Very very quickly - they brought me a HUGE salad - dripping in dressing. I asked for one with the dressing on the side - and it arrived back within minutes. I started in on the salad and the server came over - and he was all upset because they brought me field greens instead of the salad he ordered for me. He offered to bring me the right salad - but I passed - it would have been way to much food. Then the Ravioli arrived - I had 6-8 large ravioli on the plate - each about the size of a hockey puck. The sauce had slivered garlic. This was a fantastic meal - and the service was wonderful. I had been eyeing the Warm Dark Chocolate Souffle Cake but was STUFFED!!!

Dinner was at 'Ohana's. This was a wonderful experience as well. Had a great cousin - Debby - work with me for the various skewers. The food they bring out initially was great - I really liked the salad (the dressing was very good) and I like the fried rice. Then the skewers started - they brought me flank steak and turkey first. The turkey was very moist and it was very good. The steak was entirely to red (ie rare) for my taste ... I spoke with Debby and she told me they cook the steak to medium rare - but they will cook some pieces of meat more if you request it. I was a much happier camper on the next go round of steak. The pork was just okay - so I focused on the turkey and flank steak. I am not a seafood eater - so did not try the shrimp. They brought me (just me) two quarters of pineapple and carmel ... Cousin Debby told me to take my time eating the pineapple - because Wishes was going to start in 10 minutes and I was seated on the side where you could see the castle and space mountian. When Wishes started - they lowered the lights in the resturant and played the soundtrack to wishes - it was a very nice ending to my meal. Overall I enjoyed the food here very much - and I felt the service was excellent.

Sunday: I ate at ABC Commissary for luch. I wated in a HUGE line for a good 30 minutes. I could see the food prep / serving area - there was plenty of food waiting to be served - but it seemed the Cast Members were moving in SLOW MOTION!!! I ordered a Cheeseburger and fries - with a Chocolate Mousse. The Cheeseburger and fries was AWFUL - ice cold and tasted horrible. I threw it in the trash after a bite. The only saving grace was the chocolate mouse.

Dinner was at Pop Century. I had Chicken Penne Alfredo and asked for half Alfredo sauce and half red sauce - they happily honored my request. The food was hot and a wonderful change of pace after the horrible lunch meal. I ordered the Twinkie Tiramsu for dessert - was good - but not what I had expected. I also had the oversided sugar cookies for a late night snack. Pop was clean and the food quality was good.

Only last day Monday - I decided to venture back to Wolfgang Puck's Cafe since I had enjoyed the meal so much before. This time I ordered Grandma Puck's bolognese - it was wonderful. For dessert I ordered the Creme Brulee sampler - which was delicous. I had 2 oz portions of strawberry, dark chocolate, vanilla bean and butterscotch creme brulee. The sugar was perfectly crusted on the top. A perfect way to end my trip to Orlando.

Hope you enjoyed my Solo Eating Adventure

Great review.
I had the same experience at CP when I was there for dinner solo in April, even down to not getting refills on my soda.

thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report! I have a tentative solo trip planned, and would love to eat at Le Cellier. Nice to know you had a great meal and felt fine as a solo diner. :)

Would love to try Ohanas sometimes, too!

Really enjoyed your reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. We ate at CP last year for dinner and it was okay. We are eating there for breakfast this time.

Thanx for the reviews - Particularly Wolfgang Puck's Cafe - We have had WP Express & sushi at the Bar and enjoyed it so much, we are trying the Cafe in Aug. Sounds like a good choice.

BTW - Our whole family eats beets - esp. roasted on the grill! Yum! :earboy2:

Thanks for the report. I would love to do a solo trip. But I think I would miss my family too much. And all the memories from our previous trips would keep flooding back......

If I lived closer than I would not hesitate. AHHHH a long weekend doing nothing but eating in WDW. Now that sounds like a plan!

Much as I love my solo trips, I can understand the fear of the memories flooding back. That's why I've always had a "solo resort"-one where I've never stayed with my family, only on solo trips. For years, that was POR. Then one trip POR was closed so DH suggested I stay at POFQ. But we'd stayed there together, so I didn't think I'd be comfortable there.

For sharing your great reviews, very informational. :goodvibes
