my shades of green questions

The same goes for anyone who is eligibility to stay at SOG,whether their military (active or retired) and DOD civilians. I'm a DOD civilian and I can receive the same benefits at SOG as the military (except the R&R). Like I stated earlier, I've book 3 room for December.

Has anyone ever stayed there solo? I'm planning my first solo trip in May and thought about SOG, but wasn't sure how safe it would be (especially the walk from the Poly at night).

My DH and I do the walk every day we're there and we've done it at night. I don't think I'd do it alone, but you can take the SOG bus from the TTC where there are people even late at night to avoid the walk alone after dark. The only thing that would make me feel better about the walk is that at the entrance to SOG, just up the drive, there is a guard gate that is manned 24/7 so there is someone within hearing distance. Honestly, I was more concerned with the portion of the walk on Poly property that is somewhat secluded and dark than once we crossed the street to the drive for SOG. Otherwise, the property itself is very safe.

We just stayed at SOG this past week, we used FL Tours to schedule transport from the airport and it couldn't be easier. Reserve a car or limo on their website, no credit card # required, they confirm and pick you up. Too easy.

I wouldn't pay extra for a meal plan. We got one (practically) free b/c my husband just got back from Iraq. It was the R&R/ OIF package. The food there was pretty awful, just warning you!

Still a good value overall, but wanted to warn you about the food. I just posted a review on this board about our experience if you're interested.

Good luck!

I have heard from several of my friends that have stayed there that the food is quite bad. One guys said he prefered MRE's. lol
