Alot of people don't know this but I'm a former weightlifter... nothing big, I did it for health for years. I was engaged to a man who had won 41 bodybuilding contests at the time but THAT's another story!!

Well, I went to the gym this morning and did pull down lats, two sets of 8 on very light weights, 3 sets of 10 leg lifts, up to 20 lbs, one set of chest laterals.

BOY did that feel GOOD!

At my top I used to deadlift 150 pounds when I weighed 112! That is the past, though!

Aerobically I will be walking with Michael everyday after school. The gym, at my complex, a small one, has a treadmill that's out of order now, should be up and running by tomorrow and, the best part, it has a TV connected to it so it'll be easy to get a half hour in.

I've been sedentary for SO long, just a little exercise just brought the thrill of it all back. I'm so looking forward to every day now!

BTW, the scale is in the gym and I lost 2 lbs already! I know it's water weight but it still feels good!

You've lost 2 pounds already? Robin, that's awesome! You are doing so well - keep up the great work. I use the FIRM videos and my exercise bike for my work outs and always feel so good afterwards.

Obviously my work out can't compare to yours of lifting weights. Wow, it sounds like fun though. Keep at it and you'll have your first exercise clippe in no time!!!!

Hi, Lisa!

I'm lucky to have a gym right in my complex. My plan is to stop there everyday after dropping Michael off to school. It's COMPLETELY empty then and I can have the place to myself.

Weights are scary to people who've never tried them but it is so easy and worth it. I use a Universal machine, not free weights, which is a no no without a spotter. Muscle mass burns fat even when you're sitting, so it pays to have some! It also helps ALOT with a diet plan because it naturally cuts your appetitie!

I don't think I'll ever get to where I was before... I remember I had to get a specially made weight belt because my waist was 19 INCHES!! I don't think I'll ever see THAT number again but all I can do is TRY! :p

Hi Robin! You've lost 2 lbs. already?! That's great! I really enjoy lifting, too. It's really made a difference in my strength and conditioning, which is what I'm trying to focus on since I'm working on maintaining. And I love the look of cuts in my arms and quads! Right now I use free weights which are incorporated into The Firm workouts I do, but I really wish we had room for a weight machine. The weights are really changing the shape of my body, and making me much, much stronger. How is Michael enjoying his workout time with mom?:) I tink it's great that you're setting such a good example for him, and it's nice that you can spend some quality time together--I'm sure you'll both enjoy it! By the way, I've always wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your posts--you're always so positive and kind, and one of the reasons I enjoy the DISboards so much! My best wishes as you and Michael work towards your goals!

Robin, I'm impressed! :) I think it's a big deal to use 2 8-pound dumbbells..so I am in awe of you!! :teeth: Keep up the good work.

Hi, Nancy and thank you, Kim. What a sweet thing to say....

My son would RATHER run with this buddies today so I guess Mommy will be doing her walk by herself! He's too young to join me in the weight training but he gets quite a workout in PE in school.

I have to repeat I have soooo much energy! I thought that I'd be a mess without my caffeine but I've shown myself I can make it without depending on it. I do miss my morning cup of coffee so I've replaced it with green tea.

Glad to see I'm not the only one weight training! Anyone else?

BTW, Kim I just wanted to say that I LOVE your signature. That was one of my favorite quotes from my new FAVORITE movie!

I try HARD to live that!

God bless,

Robinrs

Hey Robin--Thanks! I LOVE that quote, too! When I first heard Morgan Freeman (whom I'm love, too) say it, it was like one of those "Lightbulb Moments!" I try to keep it in the front of my mind. I loved Bruce Almighty. My dh laughed so hard he peed a little bit! (Sorry, Robin--too much info. this early in the morning!) Hope you have a GREAT day!:wave2:

LOL! I LOVE IT!

I'm always for TMI! :p

My son got the DVD AND the VHS for Christmas, from two different people and kept them both! I laugh out loud everytime I see it.

My Mom always told me that Morgan Freeman looked like her beloved Dad, my Grandfather, who died before I was born. When I see him in that white suit I think that's how I'll meet my Grandad one day.

I also returned to lifting weights after years of not using them.
I was wicked into it a long time ago and then stopped. So,when I saw this thread ,I was stoked!
Man,it felt good to feel that burn! My triceps are screamin' tonight....
Glad there are others out there!

Good for you, airhead!!

I went today and I swear, I'm addicted again! The feeling is unbelievable!

Let me know how you're doing!

Hi Airhead! I LOVE your attitude--it's awesome! I'll need to call you when I'm sitting on my butt, trying to motivate myself to exercise--I have the feeling you'd be a wicked good motivator (and I use the term "wicked" with affection--one of my college roommates was from Worcester)!;)

Can I ask a silly question of all you weight-lifters?? You've inspired me to think about circuit training!!

I've started walking / running 3-4 miles 4 times a week to get ready for the half-marathon next Jan.

The fitness center I go to has a basic strength training circuit (machines - 3 reps of 12 at each one, upper and lower body machines mixed together). I used to do the circuit (long time ago) but haven't touched it in ages!

Now, my question is, can I do my 3-4 mile walk / run on the treadie AND the circuit on the same day? Which should I do first? I'd rather not be there EVERY day so if I can do the circuit 3x a week the same day as my run, I'd be happy.

Any ideas?

Since I can't claim to be an "expert" :p, I found this site that coaches you through a circuit.

If there are any trainers at your fitness center you might want to ask their opinion.

Thanks, Robin! I'll ask the trainer at the fitness center. That's what I'm paying for, right? :p
