My new microfiber sofa is a nightmare. Needed: Advice for cleaning pet hair.

I keep a sticky roller nearby for quick cleanups, and my light vacuum with a hose attachment I use about 2-3x a week. There is no other choice with animals in the house, esp. in spring. we have 2 cats, and 2 dogs. Since cats sleep where they want, and dogs sneak up when we're not looking, it's just part of the routine. I have had many types of couches over the years, and all of them had problems,it's not so much the cover but the fur.... Plus extra outddor brushings in spring (when it's not snowing) and I like the furminator type combs that really get lots of excess fur off....(why oh why do I have pets???)

we have cats and a dog. 2 cats have long hair. there's always fur everywhere! I find that yellow rubber gloves clean the fur from the furniture better than the vacuum.

Good luck - my light tan microfiber couch was a ridiculous idea in hindsight. We cover our bottom cushions with a big stretchy blanket. If we want, we can wisk it off before someone comes into the house. We periodically wash the blanket and vacuum the cushions. We have two small kids, a dog and a cat. The blanket keeps the couch in good shape in more ways than just pet hair, it helps prevent damage from scratches, dirty shoes, spills, marker, etc.

This is a four-year-old thread brought back from the dead by a new member. I'm pretty sure the OP got the information she needed.

My poor husband has to clean those couches in homes from the pet hair on them. He will not own microfiber. You could always just buy a nice cover for it ( same color as the couch ). At least it will keep the couch clean.

Never mind, Hard to tell with the new site, at least with the old the date was at the top darn it..lol

Well I think the easiest way is to prevent the hair from getting on there in the first place. You could train the dogs to not get on the couch but if you are like us we love ours up there with us. We have a 30lb terrier mix and then a 96lb golden retriever so we have plenty of hair. So I would say go to zulily.com and get you a furniture cover. They work great and just throw in the wash once a week or so.

We have a microfiber sofa/recliner that are scotchguarded and our dining room chairs have microfiber seat cushions. I also have 3 cats (a shorthaired black, a shorthaired tortie and a long haired tabby). The only place I have a problem is on the dining room chairs. I found that if I spray Static Guard on the seat, it is much easier to vaccum the hair up with the pet hair vaccum attachment. I also keep a blanket on the couch and recliner seat and I keep their sherpa blanket on the top of the couch where they lay. I just wash the blankets every week.

I have a Chocolate Lab. And a light tan microsuede sofa. I have never been happier that the day I decided to say "FORGET THIS!" and covered the couch and chair with sheets. They get thrown in the wash every other day. If company comes over I take them off.. and voila .. the furniture is hair free. I too will get leather furniture when the kids are older but for now this is saving my sanity. Life is too short for me to fret about pet hair every day.
