My new goal... Goofy in 2014...

But, it is true that people run/walk a marathon :confused3? Right now I am training using the runkeeper app at a 4 min walk 2 min run pace, 2x a week for 35 minutes and one day a long run. I went my farthest distance and longest time ever at 4.41 miles in 1 hour. But do people really walk? Just really self conscious listening to how every runs, but never run/walk.

Disney races are probably the king of run / walk due to their official relationship with Jeff Galloway. I wouldn't worry about it.

Now, if you were at Boston, you may get some raised eyebrows, but even then it wouldn't surprise me that there are a bunch of run / walkers. Just a guess on my part.

You can run, walk, hop, skip, whatever, but you have to keep at least a 16-minute-mile pace.

From the marathon website (http://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon/):
"All athletes entering the Walt Disney World® Marathon, Half Marathon or 5K must maintain a 16-minute per mile pace throughout the race. Anyone not able to maintain the respective paces may be picked up and transported to the finish. You may be picked up at any point along the course and transported for not maintaining pace. It is suggested that you train at a 15-minute per mile pace."

Thanks for both of your responses. I am going to keep doing what I am doing then. I guess the overall goal is to Finish.

Yep, many races from what I understand will have run / walkers.. And then you will have your race walkers. Here in Columbus for their mara / 1/2 mara they have the same speed requirements as WDW.. As others have said, there are races, like boston that you have to qualify on time, so those you could probably still run / walk, but obviously at a faster pace :)

Well I found a little bit of my motivation again. Reading many posts around from other runners / walkers / waddlers etc etc :) really does help! Got off my lazy butt and was on the elliptical this weekend! Honestly with the tropical moisture we had this weekend, didnt even have the desire to run / walk outside this weekend, but got a couple of good workouts in indoors.

And the facebook page running to disney posted link to this article, which puts what we all know to be true right there in black and white for you..

I'm training for the Princess half in 2014. Never been a runner because I always end up knee issues (the physical therapist said I have a floating patella). But, this time I am motivated by the thought of being able to run/walk a 1/2 marathon.

Yep...I remember hearing people shout "okay, walk for x minutes!" during the 2012 WDW Full. It was a group of 4-5 people doing the Galloway method. Lots of people (myself included) also pull off the race course to wait in character lines. :teeth:

Thanks everyone for the information. I'm really looking forward to 2014 Princess. I'm training right now with my 14 year DS (even though he is not in the race;)).

Tomorrow will be interesting because I have been having issues with the muslce on the outside of my left leg next to the shin (it is not the front). When I first start my walk it is fine, then run, fine, but when I go back to walking it hurts, but fine running. Weird is all I can say. After my run is done, and I stretch it is fine, but whenever I bed over to touch my toes, I feel a tingle there and then it goes away. I really hope this doesn't slow me down and put me on the sidelines for awhile. I am REALLY enjoying getting out and run/walking.

Good luck to you (and the other runners as well).... Running the goofy in 2014 is my goal as well... I have two half marathons under my belt, with one more being done next Saturday....
