My Name is Chris and I am a Fort Wilderness Addict..Updated 12/16

The joys of a long wheelbase truck and short wheelbase trailer. Should have seen me trying to back a jet ski trailer. I couldn't even see it in the mirrors until it was too far gone. I finally gave up and pushed it in by hand.

In my younger years a buddy of mine bought a Jet Ski (Yamaha VXR Wave Runner) and had it on a "Single" trailer. It was so much fun that I bought one too. When it came time to pick it up, they didn't have a trailer ready and told me it would be 2 weeks (or more) to get one in. (Since it was the peak of the season, this didn't work well for me), so I talked him in to a "Double" trailer for only $200 more.

Well the difference between backing the "Single" versus the "Double" was more than just night and day. I hated backing the single trailer because one small mistake and BAM.... Off to the left (or right) it went. Ugh. I can't help to think of those old (well not that old) Pontiac commercials.... "Wider is better".

Any back to the normally scheduled thread. Hope Chris and family (and everyone else) is having fun at the Fort.

Just back from DHS spent the full day there and the Star Wars fireworks are awesome !!! Downloading the 700 plus pictures i took today but won't get to post because it is off to bed. Train tour in the AM, have to be at MK by like just after 7. But MK is open to midnight tomorrow if the weather holds. We will see, so to all a good night.

We will be at the Fort in early May, and I would like to surprise DH with the train tour at MK. PaHunter said he'd be doing this today (?), so any opinion is appreciated.

Train tour is pretty cool. We were first in the park then went on our way despite the rain was a good time.

Well and that ends a very long day. Up and drove to Contemparary so we could be at MK for the Steam trains tour. Battled off and on rain most of the morning and some this afternoon. But still a very productive day. Back to MK tomorrow, maybe we can see the backside of water again !!

Even in the rain it's still better than being in 90% of other places

We took it easy yesterday, with the rain no one was in the mood to go anywhere so we just mulled around the campers till about 3 when the rains where gone. Then we decided to check out port Orleans and have dinner there. Great looking and HUGE resort, food was good at Boatwrights and the bar next door had a great show. Got back home just by midnight.

Well today we were up and had breakfast at Crystal Palace. Now back at the campground for a couple hours to relax, then in to MK for lunch and some rides. Tomorrow is Epcot day. Still chasing good pictures from Peter Pans flight.

Well today we had breakfast at Crystal Palace got to meet Tigger and Pooh and Piglet and Eeyore. We came back to the trailer today and rested for a couple hours then headed to MK for our fastpasses. MK was mobbed today, it was so much quieter yesterday with the rain. Fireworks from the beach tonight. Now see if maybe i can process a couple pictures before bed. Epcot tomorrow.

So the months have rolled on by and here we are in January of 2016. This is going to be our second trip to the Fort and won't be the last. We found the Fort and with the help of our nephew completed our first trip last February/March.
This year will find us back in the Fort in February. Rolling down the highway and in to the Fort will be myself and the DW. Oh yes, and she has stated we can book our 2017 trip already. So it looks like we will be back, after we get there and leave. Maybe we could just stay ???

BamaEd, get your popcorn, it is time for updates and the pre trip report.
you can book your 2017 trip already?!?! how?!?!? hahha I'm dying to book mine but it's not open online yet...we want to go in April and online is only showing through December 2016.

Dismom,

You have to call. I think you can book 499 days out, but the web site will only show approximately a year forward.

You will pay the same reservation fee as normal, but knowing rates will go up sometime during the 499 days, you will have to pay the current rate at checkin.

Thanks for the information, I suppose I'll just wait it out then hahaha I'd rather not have to pay anything at check-in. I like the feeling of paying my trip off months in advance and not deal with it when I get there! haha

I think what Dismom meant is that when you "reserve" it 499 days out, you will have to put the customary deposit down (1 day?) but that rate is based on the current published rates, however, by the time you actually GO, you will have to have paid the current rate for the time of your trip. So if rates increase from the time you reserve until the time the current rates are published online, you will still have to pay the difference.

So short of some other discount, you will pay the same (in the end) if you book 499 days out as you will if you book 300 days out. The difference is, is that if you book at 499 days out (by calling) you have a better chance of getting the things you want (such as dates, type of site, etc...) as opposed to waiting for the Reservation system to catch up online.

as an example, if you want to book for Halloween and you wait until it shows online, it's quite possible that the dates you want/need are gone by the time it's available online.

I think what TeamUBR meant is that when you "reserve" it 499 days out,

Yes, what Paul said.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My previous reservations (packages) required me to pay the full amount by the 2 months before arrival date. I just meant to say you would be required to pay the dailyt rate at the time of arrival, not booking.

If you are within 499 days, give them a call. You can always change or cancel later if you need.
