My motocross crash

Heres my accident report.

On December 18th I was at the track and on the first lap out just before the finish line jump I had a pretty bad accident. About an hour later I was at the ER via the local taxi called the Ambulance. After a few X-Rays a Cat Scan and an MRI they tell me I have a few broken ribs and my left shoulder is broken in four places. Many painful hours later I finally make it to surgery where it takes them 8 hours to replace part of my shoulder. Thankfully I was able to make it home by Christmas. Now I am making progress even if it is slow going. I went back to the surgeon last Tuesday to have the staples out and for a routine check up. Everything looks good so far. I'm scheduled to go back to him on the 18th for another follow-up and to hopefully he will think it is time to start Therapy. I know it is a long and painful process, so I hear. Anyone here been through this before? Any thoughts and what I should look out for or things that may make this process easier or quicker?

Update 2/21/2012
Just got back from the surgeon and all is going good.
They took a few X rays and every thing is growing back fine.
He says now I can turn up the therapy.

Only bad new was I was to race in the daytona supercross and he said no way. Still to early to do the bike.
I was sad but have to think about the wife and my daughter.
Better to wait it out then really make a mess of things.

Wish I was young again I don't get back up as fast at my age :sad1:

Oh my goodness, that first x-ray certainly tells a painful story.

I am glad that you are on the road to recovery after all you have been through over the last few months.
I have never been through what you are are having to endure but I imagine you will need to be patient as it will take some time for everything to heal.

Best wishes as you start your therapy:grouphug:

Ron,
You are a lucky man to live to tell this story. I know how difficult it must be to stop doing something that you are passionate about. Hard to watch from the sidelines when you should be the one doing it.....
Please take time for your recovery and try not to rush anything. When the time is right, you will know it.
Take care.

Well, as a 'taxi driver' myself....as you like to all it, I guess you are lucky that nothing more serious happened. I mean, just a shoulder injury. Glad you are able to walk away from it. Don't know what you would have done or who you would have called if something more serious would have happened. Seeing as, just the local taxi service picked you up.

In reality, it could have been more serious. You could have ACTUALLY had a life threatening injury. Or not have walked away at all. Next time you wish to call the people, who have gone to school to save lives, taxi drivers, think about it. These professionals are just as passionate about their job as you are about your racing.

Sorry abour your shoulder. Sucks. But you'll live. Good luck with your recovery.

WOW :scared1: Looks painful.

It seems you are healing well, and that is a great sign. Blessings, because (as you know) this could have been so much worse.

I have no experience in that type of injury, but certainly my patience has been stretched TOO thin over the past couple of years on healing and the like. There really is nothing you can do, except what you CAN DO. Therapy, and getting back into shape..

Hoping for the best :grouphug:

Like the previous people have said, you are a lucky man. Any type of activity involving bikes is pretty risky. We take our sportbikes to the track and it is always nerve racking to me when my other half is out cause I worry about something happening, as I am sure its the same for him when I am out. As a matter of fact a person I know just lost her life in a accident down at Jennings last several weeks ago.
So I hope you heal as good as new to get back on your bike and give your wife a little less stress, I could only imagine how scary this was for your family!! Good luck in your recovery.

Holy cow! Bitter much? :confused3 :confused3

No reason to jump on the guy; just reporting an experience is all, from what I read, there was no direspect. You may not agree with how he chooses to spend his spare time, but in the end, it is his choice.

Have you ever had need of an ambulance and medics???? I have, and they deserve all the respect they can get. They are truly "lifesavers". If you haven't, good for you, but you and the OP might want to learn to call them more than taxis', or else next time call a "true taxi" and see how well you fair on your injuries.
And no, I am not a medic, nor related to one, but I definitely respect them as first responders.
Didn't see where there was any judgement about his sport either.
