My parents are getting older and have two timeshares - one in Lake Tahoe and one at Vistiana in Orlando. She wants to sell them both or at least the Lake Tahoe one because she knows they will never travel there again.

Anyone have any ideas on how to sell them without it costing a fortune to advertise, fees, etc.?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Diane
PS - I even called our guide in Disney to see if they swapped or anything and he said no.:)

We spent $1000 a few years ago to list our timeshare and I think we were scammed. They don't do anything, they just list it on their website.

There just aren't very many people looking to buy timeshares. I'm actually in the process of donating it. I'm tired of paying dues and maintenance fees on something we never use.

Every person I know that has tried to sell their timeshares has ended up practically and sometimes actually given them away. My parents have two at the moment that they'd like to unload but no takers even for free. I certainly don't want to be strapped down with a yearly maintenance fee that continues to rise each year, often making the cost of the week more than the rental fees are. Good luck, hopefully they can find buyers:)

I would start by asking the developer if they would buy it back. At best you would get about 50% but that is better than nothing.

Do not, under any circumstance, go with a company that states they will sell it for you but you have to pay an upfront fee for the advertising. You will have scammed yourself.

Another option would be eBay. I have known people who have sold time shares that way. You may not get much, but again, it is better than nothing. And before listing on eBay check with the developer and find out the mechanics they require when you do a sale and see if they will handle the paperwork for you (for a fee, of course).

Google Timeshare users group or TUG

They are a wealth of info on buying and selling timeshares without the scamming middle man.

I sold a couple of my timeshares on craigslist. Also try ebay and just list them for $1.
