with breast cancer. My dh, this summer had Kidney cancer, he has since had surgery and is now cancer free, thank God!

But do to all this around me, it has really got me thinking.

I am about 70 pounds overweight and really do not eat or feed my family healthy (they don't seem to like healthy food, I do try)

I know I need to lose this weight, but am unsure of the best way to do it. I have been to Weight Watchers many times before, but don't usually stick with it because I don't like feeling deprived, but at the same time I realize that the points they give me must be the amount of food I should be eating.

I have trouble fitting in exercise. I am a very busy mom who doesn't make time for myself and everyone, including friends and other family rely on me to take care of everything. If I put myself first, I get alot of anger from everyone. I will have more time to myself come September when both kids are in school (Only 1 is now) and they are both staying for lunch (no one does now).

I am also curious about organic and if it is worth it. My research shows me that organic here is not really regulated so you don't know if it is any better for you or not and it doesn't always look very good. It is also more expensive. I don't know of anywhere to get organic food except at the grocery store. We do have a fruit and veggie type store, but as far as I know there stuff is not organic.

Can you help me with any of this.

We live in Halifax, NS. if that helps any.

Hello

First Im sorry about your Moms diagnosis that said as a community health nurse I see many positive outcomes post surgery for breast Cancer. But the stress and fear is horrible.

I too am a busy Mom who takes little time for me. There is a weight loss thread here if you want to join. Im currently counting points.

Good Luck to you and your mom
Big hugs

I joined Curves and did the 6 week healthy eating program. It was so much fun and lost the extra pounds wisely. It was tough to eat everything even with low calories it was a lot of food and my kids kept eating everything I was!

Yummy recipes and good book to use. No, I don't work for Curves! LOL! Just a fun option to meet others too!

Oh and counting with Weight watchers is easy too!

I've found that since I've become a mom to 2 very active boys that's it's really hard to make time for yourself, and you tend to put their needs, and those of the family before yourself. I've been forced to lose 42 pounds because of back problems that originated from a car accident 12 years ago. I've been forced to look at the way I've been eating and start to change to a healthier lifestyle. It is possible to lose weight in a family that hates healthy food. Even if it means making a simple healthy meal for yourself, and junk food for the family, it's time to put your needs on equal footing as your families. I would advise to join the weight loss thread on this forum for support and inspiration. Some of those on the board are looking to lose 10-20 lbs, others well over 40+. They are very supportive of everyone's struggle with their weight, and will give you the incentive, and boost to keep going on the weightloss, when you feel you want to give up. I avoided losing the weight until doc told me to lose the weight or face major back problems in the near future. Sometimes it takes a good kick start to get going. I wish you well on your journey to becoming thin again. Have a great day!

how is the Curves program for exercise and losing weight? do you have to pay extra for the Curves Diet plan? In my area, the Curves program is really expensive compared to other clubs, ($50 per month appr) and with limited hours for the clubs, last program evenings are 7pm but i work til then, i would only be able to go 2x week, plus alternate Saturdays. Doesn't seem worth it, but would love advise on Curves....;)

They just REALLY understand women like us whether it is 10 pds or 70. I am impressed with what many women have done there. Women here seem to stick with Curves more than aerobics.

Yes the plan is extra but you do not buy their food. You can work out as much as you want and they recognize all your hard work in fun ways. You can go to any curves if they do not have hours that works for you. OR get a personal trainer. That jolly well works! I think if you did curves 2 x a week next week 3x and the diet plan you will be awesome! But do follow the plan it is really sensible and good recipes. Big thing is you meet awesome people at it too!

Take a look at sparkpeople.com. Its a great free nutritional, eduacational site with calorie counter too. It tells you based on your info what calorie range you should be in. Its a great site. Great support on chat boards.:thumbsup2
