My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

awesome job carissa. You did awesome. I loved the hat too. Your pics of the beach were beautiful. Minus the sand in your face I bet it was a nice area to run by.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Great job Carissa! Sounds like a real fun race running along the Boardwalk. One of the toughest things about racing is not starting off too fast. It doesn't matter as much in a 5K, but if a runner starts too fast in a longer run then they pay for it in those last miles. It's great how far you've come and I can't wait to hear all about the 10K in a couple of weeks. You are right in thinking 10Ks are different animals than 5Ks. 10Ks tend to be a runner's race so I would guess there will be lots more really fast folks. Good luck:goodvibes

Oh yes. I'm very aware of the negative affects of starting too quickly. It's really difficult to make yourself slow down when everyone around you is already passing you! :rolleyes1 I did end up passing quite a few people towards the end. I'm thinking it was those who started out too fast and hard and were losing their energy.

CONGRATS on a great job!!!! I'm so proud of you!

Amanda

Thanks Amanda! Can't wait for your first race! :cool1:

Oh Wow, Carissa!!! CONGRATS TO YOU!!!!! I'm so proud of you for doing this. Sorry I haven't been around as much as I used to be but I have been reading from time to time to see your progress. Even if I haven't posted. :guilty: You have worked really hard for this right from the start. You had a goal and you've really stuck with it. I'd love to take part in a 5k one day. A 10k.....YIKES!!! :scared: Not sure I have that much dicipline when it comes to running.

Can't wait to read about your next race!! GOOD LUCK AND KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Thanks Cherie  I haven't been posting around the Dis much myself these past few months. No worries.

Yay Carissa!!! Congratulations!!

:cheer2::cheer2: :banana::banana: :cheer2::cheer2: :banana::banana:

Thanks Amy!

Thanks Lindsay! It was a fun area and it'll be the same location for my 10k just a bit different of a course.

Great job on your run Carissa! I'm proud of you!

Thanks Glenn! :goodvibes

Congrats on the race Carissa! NICE job!

The pics of Maine are gorgeous! I love Ogunquit...so beautiful. :goodvibes Your view was amazing! So glad you had some alone time with Chuck. :thumbsup2

Yay for booking flights!!!

Thanks Missy :) It was my first time visiting Ogunquit (sad since I grew up in Lewiston and lived in the Portland area for a couple of years) and we fell in love with it. I had such a wonderful time with Chuck. Makes me wish we could do it more often. Before we know it, the boys will be grown and we can do stuff like that all of the time. But, somehow, I don't think it'll feel the same when we're alone all of the time anyway. :rolleyes1

We are going camping this weekend! :cool1: Not counting our failed attempts in Australia, we've only been camping as a family one other time - two years ago. :sad2: I wanted to go more this year, but with Chuck being deployed and a busy Fall season so far, we just couldn't fit it in. We decided to just do it this weekend. We're not traveling far, but I think we'll have a good time.

Then it will be time to come home and mentally prepare for my next race! I have to go to an expo next Friday to pick up my packet. Looking forward to checking it out.

:cheer2:
I wish there was a running smile.
Good job Corissa.

Thanks Marisa! I wish there was one too. :thumbsup2

I ran 4 miles today on the treadmill and will run 2 - 3 miles on Thursday before my 10k on Saturday. The weather is looking perfect! :goodvibes

I sure hope you don't get this crazy wind the midwest is experiencing. It probably acts as a good resistance-but it was dangerous to drive today.

I feel I always catch up to where you are with running, and then I come on and see you have raised the bar, or should I say, you keep getting better and better with your running. I finally broke the 5 minute barrier. Last year at this time, I never thought I could run more than a minute, nor more than 1 mile.

Me and my dd are doing a 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. The trot means "walk/run", my kind of race.

I am so totally stoked for you!! 38 minutes and some small change is incredible!!! WAY TO GO, Carissa!! WOOT!:thumbsup2

We had some crazy wind during my 5k, but it really didn't seem to bother me. Weather should be good on Saturday. :thumbsup2

I don't run for more than 5 minutes at a time now. I might set a goal for myself in the future to run a 5k without walking, but for now, I'm happy with the walk/run thing. I think you're doing marvelous! :cheer2:

Nice! Great job!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I hope you have a great weekend camping and beautiful weather for your race! :goodvibes

Thanks Tim! Camping was last weekend (I'll post a couple of pictures later). We had beautiful weather except for it being a bit chilly the first night. :goodvibes

Thanks Liesa! I was very happy with that race. :woohoo:

I thought I'd share a few pictures from our short weekend camping trip. Overall, we had a really good time. All of the camping aspects went smoothly. However, I think next time we'll try for somewhere more remote to avoid annoying and rude people. :rolleyes1 :(

Baxter joined us for his first camping experience! We recently had him groomed and he received his first Schnauzer cut. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first. I missed my fluffy puppy! But, it has grown on me and now people don't ask what breed he is. ;)

And a gorgeous sight the next morning (that's the moon):

Hopefully we can go camping more often next year with Chuck not deployed (fingers crossed).

And here is the medal I will be working for in 3 short days:

I can't wait to get my hands on it! :cool1:

Carissa your camping trip looked like a lot of fun and just a real relaxing time. The sunset and sunrise pictures are absolutely gorgeous.

That is an awesome medal. Good luck at your race.

It would have been a relaxing time if not for some rude campers, but oh well.

I forgot to mention the medal is also a bottle opener! :thumbsup2

That campground looks really nice....flat, water access. :thumbsup2

Good luck on the run.

It was a nice campground. Felt like grand central station by our campsite though. Between the amount of cars that drove by and the golfcarts, I felt like I was in the big city! :sad2:

Thanks Glenn!

Looks like the boys were having a blast!!!

Beautiful sunset and moon pics!!!!

I wish I could talk my wife into going camping. She wants NOTHING to do with that. :rotfl2:
