My List of positives for VGC (updated since we are now owners!)

I see people taking those stairs all the time. It's just hard with a stroller. We call it the "shortcut".

I don't know how far exactly the DTD entrance from GCV is to the Disneyland gate but I would guess that if you recall seeing the Disneyland Hotel tower that is closest to DTD, the GCV entrance to DTD is just about half way between that tower and the Disneyland Park gate.....right in the center of DTD. The counter service restaurant is White Water Snacks. I love it too. They are expanding it to include the grocery type items that all DVC properties have. Let us know if you do your add-on!!

Thank you white water snacks is awesome!! To me it is the best counter service at the dlr. At least it was in 2005 on my last trip!! I will definately report from wdw if we add on!

We live in Dallas, so another advantage for us is pretty much equal proximity between WDW and DL. Choices. Gotta love that!

Oh, and the fact that DL has those heavenly corn dogs that WDW doesn't. That, alone, is worth the trip!

We live near Austin and have lots of family in CA. You are so right, the corn dogs rock!

Does that mean you didn't like WDW?

I loved wdw, but a part of my heart will always love disneyland as it is "home" since I lived in CA!

Here's the lay of the land for anyone who may be curious:

Yellow = Disneyland
Blue = Disney's California Adventure
Green = Grand Californian. Approximate location of Villa wing is solid green box. Notice how it is right up against DCA
Disneyland Hotel = Red
Paradise Pier = Pink
Downtown Disney = Orange

And I also included two purple lines showing the access paths to the two theme parks from the Grand Californian. GC to DCA is nothing...it's like walking to a hotel restaurant or the gift shop. GC to DL is 5 minutes tops. It's a short trip through the tail end of Downtown Disney (past their "World of Disney" shop) and through the entrance plaza.

Ok - Churros are not a positive for me with DL - I want more popcorn stands!
Hmmm.....I don't really care for corn dogs either.
But I'll take the Dole Whip!!!!!!

Me too... but this actually goes back for me to the days in high school when I had to work a churro cart at Universal...ugh. Some 25 years ago and I've only begun to like churros again - but the ones at Costco that cost me a buck, NOT the ones at DL that are triple or more than that!!!

We've done it many times..there is no signage that says it only for emergency exit, and it really does cut off a chunk of time. I think it's fine.
