Sounds very similar to our past adventure. We went to a village on the North Slope for 1 year and then into Barrow. My youngest was born there. She is now 20. We moved off the slope to Wasilla for 2 years. We did the Alcan trip twice with a camera and an SUV. 3 kids, 1 dog and 1 cat. Nuts at times. Barrow doesn't have the big Polar bear problem because it is a town rather than the wild tundra. Over in Deadhorse and Kaktovak, the polar bear are everywhere. When we were up there before , we only saw a hide.No live bears. Thanks for the good wishes. This time it is just hubby and I and a little dog. Should be interesting .

How is your daughter and her great Egyptian adventure.? She must be extremely excited about her first teaching job and her move. I wish her the best. Hopefully she can take some "me" time this summer too. I would expect she will have a great support system in Egypt. Best of everything to her!!

Thanks for asking, Becky. She is getting really excited, but really stressed, too. I'm heading to her graduation this week, and will bring her home for a few days (choir reunion). Friday, she is going to visit an awesome K teacher that I know, who has offered to mentor her, if she so chooses [Skype]. She is taking a course right now, but is planning on quitting her job in a month (or sooner ) so she can get some of that me time. She will get her flights and final info in the next 3 weeks or so. It IS an exciting time, to be sure.

What date does school start for you in Alaska?

I have to be on site on Aug 2 but the kids don't start until Aug. 18th. They have a lot of new hire inservice stuff . WOuld have preferred to go a bit later. Glad all is working out well for your daughter.

Sorry, I have been absent for awhile. I am in my 2nd year of my Alaska teaching job. I taught first grade last year. I was offered a Special Education position in the same school for this year. We have signed on for a 3rd year. It is an adventure and at times trying, but we are working hard and all doing fine. We have good friends, have rescued a husky, gained a couple of pounds and have had many new adventures.
