My Last PHL/USAir Question, Promise! I'm Outta Here in 2 Days!!

We're spending the night at a local hotel which will shuttle us to PHL for a 7:55 am flight to MCO via USAir. I'll pre-print my boarding passes and I've been advised to do the curb check-in thing. Never done it. What do I look for, where do I go, or will it all be obvious?

We're going to skip breakfast at the hotel and by my reading of the PHL terminal map it appears we'll stroll past a McD's on our way to Concourse C, which itself seems to have some food court(s). Gate C27 seems to be the gate of origin whenever I check the flight status. Any PHL vets care to offer some breakfast advice, and it doesn't have to be standard breakfast stuff, a Philly cheesesteak or a hoagie will do.

Unfortunately the McD's at PHL is all the way over and all the way down in terminal "A". I'ts a Loooooooooooonbg walk from "C".

There are plenty of places to eat at PHL AFTER you clear security in all of the terminals. In Orlando most of the food is before you clear security, there is very little on the sterile concourse.

Pretty sure there is a Krispy Kreme right after going through security....or is it right before....

The food court is pretty good at PHL. I also did breakfast at a Fridays or a Chili's right past the food court.

I can't remember which terminal has a Burger King there...I think maybe B.

Curbside check-in will be very obvious, as you hoped.

On the sidewalk right in front of the USAirways terminals there will be several large podiums with uniformed men ready to take and check-in your bags. You'll see them print out these snaking ribbons of paper, and then attach the airline tags one to each bag on the handle (you know, the tags with the 3-letter airport code on it?) They'll give you your baggage claim tickets, usually stapled to the inside of your ticket jacket, and if you don't have a ticket jacket they'll probably give you one.

On your drive into the airport mega-complex, tell the shuttle driver you want to use curbside check-in, and he'll do his best to drop you as near as possible to one of the skycap podiums. Easy as pie. HOWEVER, if there's a line or more realistically a mob around the podiums, peek inside and you may be surprised to see little or no line inside at the ticket counter. Not likely, but possible.

As a veteran of USair in PHL, I can tell you for certain that you will have no problems with curbside. The whole terminal B is USair. Just get your stuff out of the car and if it isn't busy, just flag down the guys in the navy blue uniforms. If it is busy there will be a visible line of people. Hopefully it is visible. If you don't have your boarding passes, dont worry. The curbside guys will give you one if you ask. They don't need to see your pass, just some ID and your destination. After he gives you your baggage tickets and your passes if you need them, just head up the escalators on either side once inside the building. That is when you will need your passes and your ID again so don't put it away just yet.

Depending on the time of day, security will be either very busy or very slow. I have not seen any middle ground. I usually fly to MCO on the 10am or later flight and have never waited more than 10 min.

After that is all done and you put your shoes and belt back on (lol), the food court is in the middle of the little shopping mall between terminals B and C. There is a Chick fil A, chinese, hoagies, pizza, you know the usual food court stuff. A couple of places are open early for breakfast. You'll know which ones because they are crowded. Their menu is usualy on the counter since it is only for a short time and is limited to the usualy sandwiches and platters.
I you want to sit down, look for Fridays on the same side. The have breakfast as well. If you are flying out of terminal B, there is a good fast food place all the way at the end of B. Down the ramp and turn right. It is right next to the bathrooms. I always get a egg sandwich there and it is always very good. It is called Eat at Joe's.

Thanks! Liz is pumped for the trip. We've got ressies for Cindy's Breakfast on the 9th for the two Princesses.
