My journey to the 2013 Half Marathon

get back at that journal! =)keep journaling!! get that water in!! keep training-

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am thinking about starting a new thread and linking this one to it so I can create a journal type thread. Even if I don't get daily feedback maybe the occasional feedback will keep me on track. Thanks again for the push back in the right direction.

Hi, you are doing amazing, running is so good for your weight, I was just saying on another thread about my wt, I struggled for years, I was over
270lbs, I finally started loosing and started running, Ive done a few halfs and one full, next year I am doing the goofy challenge, when I look at oics of myself back then you wouldnt believe it was possible, anyhow, getting to the point, Im doing a 4 night on the dream after my cruise in january:banana:
If that wont get us to the finish nothing will.
I have been following the non runners marathon training for a marathon in september, It says you need to visualize being at the end when you start to struggle, well let me tell you I will be visualizing ordering room serivce and a bottle of dry white when I get on the ship!If that doesnt get me to the end, nothing will!
And by the way, were coming all the way from scotland and will have jet lag so I am sure you will cope with a short car journey:thumbsup2

good luck with the training, its a shame you not coming next year!

:cool1:Wow! From Scotland...the Goofy...then the Dream!!! You are amazing! Congrats on the weight loss. How long have you been running now?

and another thing, go and get yourself fitted with good trainers now, I gave myself a horrible injury as I have ridiculiously flat feet, If I had got good trainers to start with I wouldnt have hobbled about for 6 months with lots of pricy physio!:worship: do it honey, your worth it!

I did it! I can definitely tell the difference, especially on longer runs.

haha!! I work for a hospital in the middle of nowhere!! they are hiring a few people right now!! but we are an hour and a half from the closest walmart mcdonalds etc.!!! two traffic lights in the WHOLE COUNTY!!! =)
:)

I think you are doing awesome!! I only started this about 2.5 months ago and am finally up to 3 miles and i'm not nearly as fast as you! i'm lucky if i can make a mile in 15 min!!

That is awesome work though!! I can walk a 15 min mile but I can't run more than a couple minutes at a time!! I am working towards it though!! Keep up the good work- the important thing is to not compare yourself to other but only with yourself. be better today then you were yesterday and be better tomorrow than you are today!!! =)

If you want to start a thread about your fitness goals, etc. A good place to post would be under W.I.S.H. (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy).

If you scrolled to the top of this page you will see and look at the link to this thread you will see The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com > Just for Fun > W.I.S.H > Events/Competition > My journey to the 2013 Half Marathon

Click on the W.I.S.H. Then if you want to post under one of the sub-forums you can click on one of those or you can just click the button New Thread just below the Sub Forum box.

I hope this helps. You will soon be a pro and addicted to DISBOARDS!!!!

oh wow, that's intense haha. not sure if i could handle living somewhere that remote - i'm an hour away from nyc, and i complain that's an hour too far :lmao:

but that is seriously awesome that your company is offering that. all i get are crazy blank stares at the office when they hear about my endurance sports, and no invites to order in lunch since they know i won't eat junky food anyways...ces la vie

=) too funny! Yes it is quite the distance from civilization! but we have the beautiful mountains, fresh air, can see stars for miles on a clear night and wildlife in our back yard just about!

I work for an amazing company!! I have got to win that disney prize!! tomorrow is the first weigh in then it is time to get busy!!! Did a 5k yesterday- I walk most of it, there were hills, lots of mud, slippery terrain, and wind in my face... did it in 52 minutes... BUT I will improve!!! I will I will I will!!

People think I am crazy as well so we can be crazy together!!! good for you on no junk food!! =)

Hello to everyone - great advice on this page by the way. I will be using a lot of it to get me going.

I have never posted "threads" or been in chat rooms or anything like this so excuse me if I don't know the correct protocal:confused3

Anyway, this is my story and you may get more information than you ever wanted to know about anyone but I need some help :wizard:

I am a 237 lb woman who had her last child 7 months ago. I have never ran in my life but I am obsessed with this dream of doing the Disney Marathon in 2013! What a way to celebrate my 40th birthday.

I am looking for some positive but realistic feedback. Can I do this?? What books should I read? What program should I follow? I just started Zumba so I can say as of 2 weeks ago I am no longer a complete couch potato anyway:)

I hope I get some replies to my thread because I would love to talk to someone who doesn't know me and doesn't judge me by my previous promises to change or previous failures. Thanks for listening.

Your journey is a true inspiration to me. I' 31, 323 and have decided that my goal is the 1/2 in 2013 to cap off my family's first visit to Disney. I have 3 kids and have to set a better example than I have. I have started walking and next week start the Couch to 5k program. So I hope to see you in 2013. In 2014 I plan to get Goofy.:cool1:

Coach here.

I just want to jump in and say I am happy that you are starting off on a journey to FINISH the 2013 half. Can I offer a couple quick things?

- Make sure you have clearance from a doc if you have not been in the last year of so. Its more of a cautionary approach but there can be a hidden issue that needs to be understood.

- If you find the C25K program a little too strenuous, half it or repeat weeks. You are far enough out that you do not need to be on a schedule pushing distances. Absent anything else, get out the door 5 days a week building up to 45 minutes or so at an intensity where you can only say 5-7 words per breath. it should feel almost hard to hard effort wise. Slow up if you get to a point where you can only say 2-3 words per breath. Speed up if you are not feeling the effort..

- I cannot over emphasize the need for a strength component to your work. Add a 30-60 minute strength workout 3 times a week to this program and you will see pounds fly off, metabolism increase and your overall well feeling improve.

- I recommend tackling diet at the same time. Diet in the sense of a balance approach to eating through the day. Eating whole and fresh with no added sugars.

Have fun and enjoy your races in 2013
