I spent over 4 months, tons of man hours (my buddy Q on the forums and the one on my podcast from time to time constructed it with me), and over $3000 installing about 4 miles of fiber optics into my ceiling directly above my home theater. This was a huge home imagineering project but was worth it in the end...it is a beautiful display / art installation and a pleasure to enjoy...watching movies under the stars and trees at night is great!!
There is one small color changing light rig running over 1400 points of light which are 1/2 mm in diameter. The entire ceiling is turned on and off via remote control...all equipment is invisible to the naked eye including the fibers themselves which are clipped up into the ceiling sheetrock. When the display is turned off it looks like a normal ceiling other than the greenery framing the home theater sitting area. The greenery framing the display was handmade by somasal here on the forums and I have "plussed" the greenery by installing white and blue tiny LED / rice lights throughout the tree limbs. I also have an aurora borealis lighting effect I turn on from time to time...you can see that in some of the pics. The last pics contain pics of a recent home theater upgrade....you can see some of my Olzewski Disneyland and Disney World architectural models lit up (don't have them all turned on), a water wall which sorta adds the nature feel provided by the tree limbs hanging overhead, and a new DLP display.
Fun stuff folks!!! Anyone have any home imagineering projects, large or small, they care to share?
