I was at our local Goodwill today and picked up a coffee table book called "Treasures of Disney Animation Art". There's a price tag from the store where it was bought for $49.99 and I got it for a .......drum roll please....whopping 41 CENTS! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

They said that it was a children's book for $0.59 minus 5% for using my frequent shopper Goodwill card and 25% off my entire purchase (they mailed me a coupon for my birthday this month).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it but for that price, I couldn't pass it up!

I came home with 2 big bags of things including a new Cubs shirt for DH (still had the Kohl's tag on), 5 sweaters for DD(2 were 1/2 price because they were yellow tickets), 2 other books and a Pretty Pretty Princess game with all of the pieces for a total of exactly $20.00 The manager was ringing me up and said that I deserved a prize for my total being an exact amount. I laughed thinking that I already got my prize with the book.

Just wanted to share!

Wow, that's great! We bought that book many years ago (when we had money to burn) and it WAS $50!! It's HUGE, too! Don't you feel like a thief when you get such a great deal?!:thumbsup2

One day I am going to post pictures of my Goodwill find. It is a brand new Cole Haan (small) handbag that still has the department store tag on it describing the bag exactly. I got it for $.99. I also bought a like new food dehydrator in the box w/booklet for $1.99, and the cashier tried to tell me that it was priced wrong..too bad, so sad, that's what the price tags said all over it-about 8 tickets!

I love goodwill, I visit two of them and the Humane Society's store once a week. Don't care much for Salvation Army.

Ooh a NEW one. That would be awesome, I would be there when the doors opened!

Unfortunately my Goodwill's prices are like finding things on clearance in the store. Their prices just are never worth it to me. And there are hardly ever any good deals.

Same here and ours has a very strong smell of cat urine. I can't go in that store without gagging. Unfortunately its the only second-hand store around these parts.

When I was there last week, I got a Walt Disney World book from 1993. It is purple wiht a large picture of the castle on the front and goes into all the attractions in WDW. The last thing on the timeline is "digging for the Tower of Terror ride begins".

My DGD and I went to our store on Saturday and found some great kids books. BTW, she calls it the BigWheel Store

Hit or miss on what you find! They are kind of picked over here..but I love to hit up thrift stores when I travel! Other places often have better stuff!

Yard sales are the same way. Went to my first one of the summer a few weeks ago.....Hollister jeans for my DD....50 cents!:cool1:

We have a few stores in our area but I usually go to the one that is located in a pretty high income area. I kid my DH that they get better junk than the other two stores. They have a lot of clothing from Talbots, Marshal Fields (Macy's), Justice, Gap, Gymboree...

On Sunday and Mondays, they have 1/2 off a particular colored tag. This week is was yellow so that's why two of the items I got were 1/2 off as well as 5% for showing my Goodwill card and 25% for the birthday coupon that they sent me.

We have a store that just opened about a month or so ago but I haven't gone there yet. I thought that since it was a new store that there probably wouldn't be a lot of things there yet. It's a bit further than the other stores. Is it worth the drive or should I wait awhile?

We were just in ours yesterday! We got 3 sweatshirts (1 was a Disney sweatshirt), 1 pair of designers jeans for DD13, a tie, a short formal sparkly blue dress for me, a wedding dress and shoes for DD13s Halloween costume, all for under $60. We don't go much, ours doesn't usually have deals like that but I think I'm going to start checking there once a month, just to see what they have. They had cell phones, video games, jewelry, a lot more stuff then they had previously.
Congrats on your book!! That sounds really neat!!

Great find! Isn't it such a rush when you come across such a bargain?!

About a month ago I just happened to drive thru our local farmer's market on a Saturday morning and there were several people that had stuff set out (yard sale type stuff). A large lateral file cabinet caught my eye, so I stopped to look at it. It was in almost new condition and when I asked how much the guy said $25!!! I couldnt' pay him fast enough. When I got home I looked it up online and the same cabinet if I ordered it new would have been over $400! I was ecstatic!! Felt like I hit the jackpot, LOL.

Ours too. Plus they don't do the frequent shopper card or have any discount days.
I asked about it once and was told "our prices are already really low."

No, your prices are the same or higher than a nice store's clearance racks.
So I don't bother going there anymore.

It is always packed with people too, which I don't understand.

I love, love, love GoodWill. You must haunt the place. You never know what will be there and if you see it now there is a good chance it wont be there 5 minutes from now. I have gone home wishing I got something only to go the next day and it's gone. It's a great place for things for your home. I have gotten window treatment cornices 2 for $4. A signed oil painting for $3. A Walt Disney World Tee shirt for my DS that has Mickey and Pluto on it and says"How to be a Pirate" and pictures of them dressed like a pirates, for $1.25. An Alice in Wonderland mug for 25 cents. A VHS tape "A day in Disneyland" for $1. Plus a ton of other things I can't even begin to list. I think it's best to go to a Goodwill in a nice area. I think It makes a Huge difference. You'll be shocked the things people will get rid of in those areas. Happy Hunting.

I almost picked up some venetian blinds one time, and decided against it because I wasn't sure of size...got over one aisle and changed my mind, went back and GONE  it was literally 20 seconds later!

I am sorry some people have bad ones, I love our goodwill. Salvation army is the pits though, it is completely different.

I am trying to think of my best buy, I think it was the 5 matching curtain rods with finials that I got for $7.50, and I later priced online for $80 EACH.

Our Goodwills here are pretty icky. When they do have something nice, they price it insanely high! You'd think you could find some slightly used namebrand things, but they price them too high here. I wonder if too many people shop there for eBay resales or something.

For example, I found a plain but nice leather Coach bag that was about two years out of season. I would think to pay about $30 for it due to the style and the normal wear. They wanted $75 for it.

And two of ours also smells like cat urine. What IS that smell?

i can't believe I forgot this one - but I remembered this past Saturday, when we have family movie night. To celebrate our trip to disney in January, and to familiarize my 5 year old with all the disney characters (he has only been in this country 6 months) we decided to make family movie night a different disney movie until we go.

Anyway, I *always* find Disney movies at goodwill. They are always (as far as I have seen) VHS, but it is a fantastic deal, and a great way to find a movie between the "official" releases.
At my goodwill they are 99 cents, and off the top of my head I have gotten Pocahontas, Mulan, Toy Story, Sing Along Songs, Holes, The Aristocats, Mary Poppins...and many more.
