my GF stay

Just back from a glorious trip to WDW, including a stay in the GF, which has always been my favorite. I came home with the GF being second in my heart after the YC, but loving both resorts a lot.

We stayed in Conch Key 7201 and 7203--adjoining rooms--2 couples. The rooms were in very good condition, no major issues. Noticed some wear and tear especially on the comforters and pillows. Both rooms were very clean. Maid service was very efficient and punctual. Had lots of soaps and towels. The view was garden view but actually a pretty decent one. We overlooked the back of Conch Key (no fireworks in sight or castle) but it overlooked Bay Lake, the monorail, and the marina where the Grand is kept. We enjoyed the view a lot, but had the urge to run outside whenever we heard the fireworks going off. It was frustrating to not be able to see them!

The GF still has the most gorgeous lobby! And the Christmas decorations were amazing. No other hotel comes even slightly close to the holiday spirit. I could sit in that lobby for hours. I especially love it at night when the orchestra is playing overhead. That is still one of my favorite parts of the GF. I also love the restaurants there. I love the MK view, the fireworks, and being able to sit on the beach and watch the electrical water pagent.

As for staff, we had the help of two excellent guest service cast members--Chantilly Lace (obviously a stage name) and Bill. I can't say enough good things about Chantilly. Chantilly could not do enough for us. She wrote out by hand the entire brochure of the MVMCP activities and had it sent to our room since they ran out of pamphlets. And my favorite, of all favorites, is Larry one of the greeters who stands outside in front of the hotel. He is the nicest, most wonderful cast member ever and if you are staying at the GF I encourage you to visit him. He is the best!

GF fell second to YC mainly because of location and convenience. We had some very bad weather and realized the Lodge buildings are a very long walk from the main building and quite inconvenient. Also, we like being within walking distance to Epcot and other things as well. To hear more, read my YC comments.

One last thing to note. I do not find the GF cast members snotty. If anything, I would say that the maids and the guys that drive the golf carts are less friendly than they could be. But the reception people, store employees, guest services and wait staff were very, very nice. And as for the GF guests, I didn't see anyone who looked snobby. Everyone during my stay was completely down to Earth and looked like they just came back from spending 10 hours in the rain in one of the parks--which they probably did!!! :)

If you have a question, I'd love to answer it!

We also just returned (Dec 8) from our first stay at the Grand Floridian - and we LOVED it!!! The decorations were absolutely beautiful!

We were also in Conch Key - Room 7217. Our room overlooked the water, and we could see the monorail go by. Also, if we were out on the balcony, we could see the fireworks!

I would definitely return to the Grand Floridian - everyone was so nice!! And the convenience is great too!

i am so glad you enjoyed your stay! the gf is simply gorgeous--especially with all the christmas decorations. did it seem crowded to you? it seemed very crowded to me. the lobby was always overflowing with people except late at night. we enjoyed sitting there enjoying the decorations at that time. i thought the rooms in conch key were in good condition and very spacious, more so than i remember in other buildings. the walls were a little thinner than i remember though! anyway, welcome back but if you are like me, you are wishing you were still there!!!!

Welcome back! Thanks for posting your review. I got back from the GF on 12/5 for our first stay during the holiday season. I'm hooked now! ;) I thought the GF was beautiful during the regular months but I was blown away with the holiday decorations!

First of all, welcome back, and I'm glad you had such a nice stay at the Grand! :) Larry - is he the older gentlemen greeter? If so, you're right .. he IS the best, and such a great representative of the hotel!

yes, larry is one of the older gentleman dressed in the knickers who greets under the overhang. i think most of the greeters are older, but i am sure we are thinking of the same gentleman. he is a sweetheart! and a great rep!

Thanks for the review!

Jules & I hope to stay here in June 2004 after her high school graduation!

We want to do the whole spa thing. Have you ever done that?

Welcome home! I had a room two floors above yours a few years ago (7401).

And, I agree with you on Larry. My sister and I got our picture taken with him one day. :)

i have always said i was going to do tea and a spa day at the gf, but when it comes down to it, i never have the desire to skip a day at the parks. i think the gf, and the spa would be a very special and fantastic mother/daughter trip though! it will be wonderfully special for after graduation!

my best friend and i took our picture with larry too! but not only was he nice to us, but he was nice to our hubbys too!

I've done the spa day thing at the Grand (at the DI too) several times, and it is GREAT! It would be a terrific thing to do as a part of a graduation trip.

I too have just returned from my trip to the GF. It's the BEST place on earth. DH and I stayed at the RPC, room 4326. It was awesome. I find that the concierge service at the Royal Palm cannot be beat. They were super friendly and bending over backwards to assist us. I did not find the lobby terribly crowded in the late evenings, after 10pm. I cannot wait to go back. I agree with Misti--I didn't think it could be prettier until I saw it all at Christmas!! :D

We were in 7202 and 7204 the week of Thanksgiving. Across the hall neighbor. We talked to Larry for a while one day too. Of all of our visits to the GF, the maid service this time was the worst. Food crums around the table stayed there the whole time. One night we got back late from the parks (like 10:30pm). They had not done turn down service in either of our rooms. They did no towel animals or cute setups of the kids stuffed animals. The trip was still good...just dissappointing in that regard.

that is too bad. i am sorry to hear that, neighbor! i was on guard for bad housekeeping because i had heard some negative comments regarding that at the GF lately, but both our rooms stayed spotless. we did not receive any towel animals though. i figured it was because we were all adults--not too big a disappointment for us, but i know it is important to other guests. on the other hand, we were all joking the whole time that the maid must have though we had 5 people in each room because we were left tons of towels and chocolates! i hope they improve on the clean-up process if it is still a problem. and i am very glad it didn't ruin your trip!

I've met Larry too. He is such a sweet gentleman. He spent 15 minutes chatting with us at the bus stop one early morning.
