yep....mine only works randomly from the remote and nope...it doesn't need new batteries....

it's a pain but we mostly just ignore it and use the front door...

We had that problem when we moved into our place. Turned out that the remotes were not synched with the opener... this happens when the batteries are changed (not sure when else). We looked up the owners manual online and found instructions for repairing the remotes and the unit.

Also, clean the contacts that the battery connects to in the remote. An eraser is a good tool for this job. Changes in humidity can cause just enough corrosion to prevent a good connection.

When you say that it doens't work "from inside the garare", do you mean with the wall mounted switch? With mine, the button sometimes gets stuck in the "IN" position and needs to be coaxed back to where it will operate correctly.

Do you have a military base close by? We have a Navy base here in Mechanicsburg - yep, you read that right (supply depot). Anyway, the frequencies the garage-door-opener manufacturers have used for years were actually frequencies assigned by the FCC for military use. Shortly after 9/11, the military in some areas actually started using the frequencies, and the garage-door-openers intermittently stopped working.

Here is the FCC notice: http://www.aaaremotes.com/fccpunoforga.html
