My "Game On" offer was for rack rates. What the heck?

So I decided to sign up for a free planning DVD and save some vacation offers online and sign up for emails, all in hopes of getting one of the elusive PIN codes.

I got a "Game On" offer via email with package code KS5. The rates quoted in the email looked to be the same as rack rates, so I called. The agent confirmed it was for rack rates and we both kind of chuckled at how stupid that was. Why send an email with something that looks like a big offer when it's really nothing at all? No room discount, no dining discounts, no ticket discount. NOTHING!

I asked her about PIN codes and how I could get one and she just said she doesn't know and it seems totally random. There was nothing futher she could do.

So frustrating! Hoping for a PIN code for Poly in Nov! :ccat:

That sucks, but some people might fall for it! That is what it seems like, that they are looking for people who don't check the rates, but think they are getting a good deal. I've seen others say that about the "Game On" offer - so stupid!

Yeah, I figured it was 1 of 2 things:

1. Just a "reminder" for me to book my vacation.

OR

2. Disney was hoping that I am stupid enough to fall for an offer for rack rates.

Sorry Disney, but this ain't my first rodeo. I'll hold out for a PIN code. :rolleyes1

Got one of those too, posted about it under "what's the point of the game-on card" They must want to trick people because mine was for September and if you go online you can get a deal, so the card it pointless and tricky!!!

I got one too about 2 months ago, i checked the web site first and then called. The cm gave me the same rate the disney web site gave me. I told the cm that was not any discount and he check what the rate would be with out the code and seemed very confused that the price was the same. How dumb does disney think i am. I have been to disney 10-12 times and most of them on a pin code or general public discount, i would never fall for such a trick..... it almost made me made enough not to go any more..... but when i came to my senses, i am trying to find a dsicount for the last week of oct 2011. Really hoping for free dinning.:confused3

Don't give up hope. Early this year, I got the "Game On" rack rate "deal," and a few weeks later, got another "Game On" pin good for about a 21% discount on lodging, tickets and dining.

If you do a search you will see that this is happening alot and has been discussed at length.

I received one of those useless Game On pins today that offered me no discount at all.

Looking at it from the marketing side of view, I am sure someone decided this marketing ploy would be a good way to generate additonal bookings without offering a discount and lessening profits.

Many people do not read The DIS and are clueless about the many various kinds of discounts out there. I for one paid rack rate previously to joining the DIS in 2010.

I feel rather "dumb" now knowing all the money I could have saved over the years had I been better informed of available discounts. DH and I have been members of AAA since the 70's long before our frist trip to Disney and never even were aware of their discount on room rates.
