My furbaby is missing... **UPDATED**

I am sooooo glad to hear this. I was just reading your other posts early in the thread. I have a suggestion for you (as did someone else)--get crates for your dogs. Now, it may be "too late" for them as they are now older and have not been crate trained, but believe me, it will give you some peace of mind.

I agree with this- excpet for the part about them being too old. I have crate-trained dogs as old as 12 for the rescue group I volunteer for.

Please, for your peace of mind and their safety, get them crates- or at the very least babygate them in a secure, safe room.

I hate leaving them outside but generally if we are gone more than a few hours I usually do because they tear everything up.. Sometimes in the middle of the night they get ahold of stuff and tear it up.. One day a few months ago I left them in the house while I went to my parents and DF was down the road at a friends house.. he came home and checked on them and took them out to go potty and then let them back in.. I got home about an hour after the last time he checked on them and they tore up mail and left it on the living room floor.. they got ahold of some bags of school supplies and tore the bag open and tore the spiral notebooks up.. they tore up the boxes of kleenex.. basically they made a mess..

Now I wish I had just left them in the house.. but I knew we were gonna be gone for a long time with noone home..

First of all, SO GLAD your baby made it's way home! Yeah to good neighbors!!!

I hope I didn't come across as negative; I didn't mean to. I get flack from family that I baby mine too much and I always tell them that they *could* get out and it's just not worth it. Your story reminded me why I put up with the comments ;)

I def recommend crating when not home. I think all dogs should be crate trained anyways; in case of emergency, at the vet, in the shelter, etc they will be crated and it's best if they feel safe in that environment already. My two can be destructive so I feel your pain. I have one that has graduated from the crate to our bathroom. We have to dog proof the whole place and he lays on his big bed and chews on his bone or sleeps. He thinks it's his master suite, really. My other has earned limited freedom in the house while we're gone but we still have to dog proof everything. He loves to tear up paper and kleenex.

Have fun cuddling with your boy!

No offense taken at all.. :) Obviously naive of me but it didnt even cross my mind that they would get out.. Im just soooo glad he came home.. I missed him so bad.. DD15 and DS13 were both crying cause we couldnt find him.. He has come to be like family to us..

We started using a crate with one of our dogs later and she loves it. She is a rescue so not sure if she was crated as a puppy but we had her for about 5yrs before we started and she never complains about being in her crate so it might be worth a try.

I wouldn't have a dog anymore without a crate; it just isn't worth it and they are also safer in it.
