My friend posted on FB that the portion sizes at Disney....

My DH says they are too small  but his portion size at home is smaller. Wierd.

DD thinks the kids sizes are too small.

But I think the adult sizes are too big so I usually share some with DD since she's still hungry after eating her food.

DS14 things the adult sizes are just right but then he's got a bottomless stomach right now.

When we went and had the dining plan the portions were just right.......for 3 of us to eat off one. :lmao:

I've had massive portions and incredibly small ones in the same week at disney. I definitely can see both sides. The insanely small one standing out in my mind was the Lamb Two Ways at Rose & Crown. It had about half a cup of sheppard's pie and then two little bones with no more than a bite of lamb on each bone. At the same time, everyone else's dinner was huge? Maybe it was just that particular dish?

I think people might think the portion sizes are small compared to the price you pay with the theme park premium, but I don't. From a purely health standpoint the portions are too big. A serving size of steak is the size of a deck of cards. When is the last time you received a steak the size of a deck of cards at WDW?

I've had hit-or-miss portions as well.

I remember going to Whispering Canyon this last trip and ordering the barbecue egg rolls ($9.99) an an appetizer and there were exactly 2 skinny egg rolls served to us! I was sort of amazed at their gall for serving that portion at that price.

My side of cucumber salad at GF Cafe couldn't have been more than a 1/4 cup. It was served in one of those cups you usually get ketchup in.

Most everything else I've gotten has been adequate or generous, though. Maybe he just had a run of bad luck.

Disney gets very little of my vacation food budget.

They would get a lot more of it if they reduced the portion size and reduced the price.

Ok..so I just found out they ate at the food court at POP last night and that's what he was responding to. Depending on what he got, I can see why he might think they were smaller portions. His wife said she thought that breakfast this morning may have changed his mind. ;)

Good to know. :)

We go every year and when we were there at the end of March, we commented that the portion sizes definitely were down, the kids meals were ridiculous!!!! Not enough food for a hungry 9YO boy. The kids pizza is about the size of an english muffin, completely nuts! My DS was constantly hungry. Also, the quality was definitely not up to par from previous visits. We were disappointed in most restaurants, the only ones that didn't disappoint were the signatures we ate at.

I think they can be hit or miss as well.

I've been known to get counter service kids meals and been stuffed and leave table service restaurants hungry.

I really do think they vary.

Overall, I would say they are normal to generous.

I don't think I'd classify them as small.

DH and I eat at many of the WDW restaurants on a frequent basis. I think they have scaled down the size of the portions recently. Even when the portions were more generous, we never had food left over. We're not big people nor are we pigs...very average. I've always been shocked to hear people talking about the large portions.

I agree. I think most of the chain restaurants offsite have much larger portions (and lower prices) than WDW.

We had the QSDP last summer and we had lots of credits left. If WDW scaled back portion sizes I'd bet it would save money!

Some places HAVE cut back...for instance, I had to seek out a fish QS meal during Lent on a Friday this past March (no easy task, I'm telling you). By the time we managed to get to the Epcot WS Rose & Crown takeout place, I was starving and it was a massive dissapointment. Two small fish stick size pieces of fish and a few french fries in a small paper tray. I am not a big eater at all...it was just sad! We had meal vouchers which included dessert, but the only choice there was a small butter cookie. I ended the meal still hungry. I love fish & chips but I won't ever go back there again. It was pitiful.

So...it really depends upon what you order and where.

I know at Disneyland some of the portions have cut back. At Rancho del Zocolo, you used to get 4 enchiladas with the meal and they have cut back to 3. At Redd Rocket's the pasta sizes are smaller than they used to be, too.

We are in the minority, but we feel that the portions are on the smaller side but still acceptable. We usually use the Deluxe Dining Plan.

We share meals there all the time, I'm surprised to hear that. Although there are people that think the Cosmic Rays chicken and ribs combo is good for one person, we can split that 3 ways. Everyone's appetite is different.

This may have already been stated but many people have a very scewed idea of what a portion of most food is. For example, most cereal has a portion size of about 1/2 of a cup and sometimes as small as 1/3 of a cup. Filling that bowl is often 3 servings or more. Same goes with meat, a portion of most red meat is the size of the palm of your hand or a fist, depending on the size of your hands.

I have seen surveys that state that the average portion of pasta at many restaurants is 4 or 5 servings. That is before even taking into account that many of them serve red sauce with sugar in it.

When people start reading packages for portion size and journaling their food they are often surprised at how many more calories they consume then they think.
