My Food Trippie: This is How You Gain 10 Pounds Moving Next Door to the Mouse

Yay, you're back!
I hope the move went well & I can't wait to read all about the yummy disney food. Heehee!:woohoo:

:shamrock: Raglan Road:shamrock:

My memory card still hasn't shown up anywhere! I can't believe I'll have to write the first part of my Trippie without any pictures! This is very rare for me, as any of you know that have been reading my past Trippies. I took a picture of every piece of food we ate too, so this is pretty disappointing. :sad2: I'll do my very best to describe everything in great detail, but I know it still just isn't the same.

It's about an eight and a half hour drive from Charlotte, NC to Central Florida so my Mom and I arrived to my new home around 3:30pm and it was time for me to get the key to my brand new home! I was so excited! I also couldn't wait to show my Mom the new place because she had only seen the few pictures I took of it when we came to Florida in November.

Our relator was in the driveway when we pulled-in and I was handed the key to my new home! It was such an exciting feeling to open the front door, but then I soon realized all the work we had to do to turn the empty house into our home. My Mom and I had already decided to use this time to rest because we didn't have enough time to really make the 25 minute drive to The Home Depot. We had many supplies to pick up because I wanted to paint the entire inside of the house! (I took pictures of everything and I can't believe I don't have them!)

My Mom and I unpacked the car, which was piled high with luggage, tools, and cleaning supplies. We'd be sleeping on a cot and an Aero bed for the next 8 nights! That's right, 8 nights on the floor! We then decided it was time to eat and I thought there is no place better to go then, Downtown Disney! :mickeyjum I also wanted to show my Mom how close we lived to WDW! I knew she'd be as excited as I am about it!

We live 13 minutes from WDW and that's 17 minutes in traffic and rain. Yes, I have calculated it! We live right up the road from I-4 and it just can't get any better than that and every time we make our way to the Happiest Place on Earth, we are greeted by the famous icon!

My Mom and I decided to try out Raglan Road! It was a new restaurant to me because I had never seen it before and I didn't even realize it was at Pleasure Island. It was freezing in Florida on this night and my Mom and I were not dressed right in our sandals at all! Downtown Disney was pretty empty I guess because of the cold weather and we were able to get seated right away. Raglan Road was a huge restaurant and it really did feel like we were in an Irish Pub. We got seated in the back against the mirror wall in a table for two squished between two other tables of two. I literally had to squeeze my way through just to take my seat. It was impossible not to talk to the people next to you that pretty much end up becoming your tablemates. The waitress had to stand behind our table to even talk to us and she had to reach around my Mom's head to place anything on our table. Yeah, it was that crammed in there.

The table was neatly decorated with round leather placemates and our menus were also leatherbound. Our waitress was even from Ireland! She brought out some soda bread with a honey and Guinness beer dipping sauce and it was fabulous! The sauce was so sweet and tasty, it didn't taste like there was in alcohol in it at all. Raglan Road had a lot of its interior design around Guinness and we were seated near a large portrait of the Mona Lisa holding a Guinness beer. Everyone kept walking over to where we were seated to get a picture of it.

I ordered the Raglan Risotto for my main meal and my Mom chose the Pie In The Sky. We were enjoying relaxing after our long drive and we knew we had a busy week ahead of us! We continued chatting with our tablemates and I got many compliements on my Tinker Bell purse, which made me start to talk about my Tinker Bell tattoo to the older couple next to us because they said their grandaughter like Tinker Bell. I could tell they then got a tad uncomfortable for whatever reason. :rotfl2:

Our food was brought out to us pretty quickly and it was presented beautifully! My Raglan Risotto was piled high on my plate with Shiitake mushrooms, leeks, onions, parmesan cheese, cream and a drop of white wine! It was fantastic and one of the best meals I have ever had! I was stuffed, but I had to eat it all and clear my plate. It was that good! :goodvibes My Mom also loved her Pie in the Sky, which was a Chicken and wild mushroom pie. It looked like a fancy version of a Chicked Pot Pie. My Mom loved the flaky crust and it also came with a rocket lettuce salad, which looked like a regular salad to us. We both loved our meals!

We were pretty full, but that didn't mean we couldn't fit in a little dessert! ;) We checked out the dessert menu and decided to share the Marie's Strawberry and Apple Crumble. It was just enough for us to not feel like we were going too overboard! It had a very sweet and tart taste to it, which went great with the vanilla ice cream. Yum! Yum!

My Mom and I were now officially stuffed and tired, so it was time to get back to the new pad and get our sleeping arrangements ready on the floor. :rotfl2: Of course, I did get some very quick shopping in and picked up a Mickey Valentine's Day antenna topper! The Mickey head also has antennas! WDW had some very cute Valentine's items! There is the cutest Mickey and Minnie stuffed animals! Mickey is in a little red tuxedo and is holding a rose behind his back for Minnie. Awwww...

yay a new one!

glad to hear everything is great and that you enjoyed your trip/move in!

sorry to hear about the furniture though... :(

Great start Lindsey!!! I can only imagine how exciting it must have been to be home and use your key for the first time to your new house. I am so jealous at how close you are to Disney and how you get to go by the Mickey power line thingy every time you go to Disney! I hope the memory card shows up...maybe you left it in Orlando by accident. Cant' wait to read more!!!

Hmmm... now I think I have to add Raglan Road to our wedding trip. DF LOVES all things Guinness, so I guess it'd be a good place to go. Thanks for the review Lindsey :thumbsup2

I'm here.......
Wow the food at Raglan Road sounds awesome. I really wanted to make it there on our last trip but there is NEVER enough time....well there will be for you now that you live so close....but RR is going on my to do list for sure for our next lengthy trip.
Glad you are writing this up for us.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I left it at the house too, but I kinda doubt it. :sad1: So sad...

Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe

My Mom and I had our work cut out for us in the house. It is a beautiful home, but it had been abandonded for almost 9-months! That meant there was A LOT of clean-up to do before we could begin painting and before the furniture arrived. The owners now lived in California and never came back to see the place again.

We made one of our many, many trips to The Home Depot to pick-up supplies and paint! I even bought some Disney paint! Two of the walls in our master bedroom and our master bathroom is painted with "Tigger's Tummy!" :tigger: I love it! We've got a lot of Disney decorations throughout the entire house. I'll have to re-take all the photos when I get back to Florida, so I can show a few of my favorite things!

I do have a few photos on the memory card I do have! Here is a wall in our den with some Mickey flare! My DH and I bought this mirror over a year ago and we were finally able to hang it up!

It was another exhausting day of painting for my Mom and I and we had to reward ourselves with another trip to Downtown Disney for dinner! It was packed this night and every restaurant had atleast a hour wait and we were starving! We decided to try out Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe, but we had to make a quick stop at the Candy Cauldron to get a snack to tide us over!

The Candy Cauldron was a neat candy shop with an entire theme around the Witch from Snow White. There were poision apples everywhere in the designs of the place. You can even watch the candy apples being made from outside the window. Yummy! The neatest touch is that they add a gummy worm to the top of every candy or chocolate covered apple.

My Mom and I love Disney's strawberries and I saw a huge one covered in white chocolate with Reeces' Pieces on it! Now, that wasn't a combination I had ever seen before, but I knew I had to have it! My Mom went with the classic chocolate covered strawberry. We sat outside and enjoyed our scrumptious snacks!

I did some quick shopping before our buzzer when off for our table. I bought a Pirates of the Caribbean jacket, which I love! It has a skull and cross-bones on the front with "Dead Men Tell No Tales." I was in line checking out and our buzzer finally went off! Woo hoo! Time to eat!

Wolfgang Puck Gand Cafe was huge inside and it was packed! We got seated at a table in the back of the restaurant in a nice private area and our waitress came over to our table quickly to take our drink orders. We then saw two other groups of people get seated at tables right next to us and I knew there was going to be trouble! There was no way one waitress could cover all these tables at the same time.

Well, I was right because it took us 15 minutes to finally get our drinks and then our waitress didn't take our order. She went to the table right next to us and brought them their drinks and took their meal order and they had sat down about 10 minutes after us. The next thing we knew, the manager came over to our table to take our order.

We didn't realize we got bread with our meal because we didn't have any brought to our table when we sat down or got our drinks, so we ordered an appetizer. We decided to try the Spinach & 5 Cheese Dip. Well, it took about another 15 minutes to have our appetizer brought out to us and we had still never seen our waitress again by this point, but she was right on top of the table across from us. The other three tables of families in her seating area were being ignored too and were as irritated as we were. It made no sense! :confused3

The Spinach & 5 Cheese Dip was served with crispy Parmesan flatbread and it was really good! We were starving because this was our only meal of the day, so it was gone pretty quickly. We were finished with our appetizer and had to wait almost 20 minutes for our meals to arrive! They were also brought to us by other random people and the table across from us was brought their food before we were, and given bread before us! After our meals were placed on our table, a waiter came over and gave us our bread. Why would we be served bread when our meal is brought out to us!? We were irritated because we would have liked to enjoy the bread before our meal and there was a lot of it!

Our food was wonderful! I ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli, which was fantastic! The first time I ever had it was at a little restaurant here in NC and it's pretty hard to find. I was so happy to see it on the menu because I hadn't had it in a long time! The Ravioli had a brown butter sauce with fried sage, port wine glaze, toasted pine nuts and aged parmesan cheese. It was pretty tasty! I can't wait to go back, so I can order it again! Hoepfully, with better service this time. ;) My Mom ordered the Margherita Wood-Fired Pizza and it was great, of course! It was topped with mozzarella cheese, Roma tomatoes, and basil.

By this time our glasses were empty and our waitress never came over to give us refills! Another waiter had to refill my Mom's glass and I had to flag down our "real" waitress to finally get some more Diet Coke! We would have liked to enjoy a dessert, but we had already spent WAY too much time at Wolfgang Puck's for one night! We didn't even leave a tip and that is a big shocker for us! We always leave a tip and it's been over 15 years, since my Mom hasn't left a tip.

Our food was fabulous, but the service was absolutely dreadful! We left the restaurant and just out of pure coincidence, we were approached by a CM, who would like a review of our meal at Wolfgang Puck's. :rotfl2: We told her about our awful service and she was in shock! She said that was unacceptable and it was hard for us to even fill out the survey because the food was excellent. We were glad we were able to voice our opinion on what should have been a perfect meal.

We will be going back because the food was fantastic, but we just hope we don't have to encounter the same waitress next time. ;)

Lindsey- I LOVE that Mickey mirror. Do you remember where you got it? I just have to have it :goodvibes I cannot wait to see the pics of your decorated house! I bet the color "Tigger's Tummy" is pretty... I'm guessing it's yellowish, my favorite :)

You know, DF and I went to Wolf Gang's Cafe in May '05. We had horrible service too and felt very rushed. We also really enjoyed the food, but not sure if we'd go back there. Pumpkin ravioli sounds yummy though! Pumpkin is my favorite flavor in the world! I'm actually baking pumpkin brownies today... yum yum ;)

Awesome mirror! Now that you are settled, we'll look forward to lots more good pictures and reports. A lot of people are slightly jealous of you at this point, you know. It is cold where we are and nowhere near the Mouse. I know you moved there for your own reasons, but all of us out here think you moved there to do your real job of keeping us there through your many pictures and writings. Hope all the "boys" are doing well. Enjoy your new home and your new job as unofficial Disney reporter. You are so lucky to have a husband who feeds your Disney fever.

Thanks for the reviews so far! Congrats on your lovely new home! You are sooooo lucky to be near the best place on the earth! Good luck with everything!:goodvibes

Lindsay!

It's been a hectic couple of days. I'm really enjoying your reviews!

Btw...I'm going to have a special surprise for you in my TR, but I'm still about half a day away. How much longer are you in NC?

Thanks so much! I got it from Disney Shopping actually. I've decorated my entire house with all the Disney stuff! ;) Just to drive DH crazy...:rotfl2:
The "Tigger's Tummy" looks just like his tummy! See the yellow color -->:tigger: That's it! :) I love pumpkin too! It's my fav! I eat everything pumpkin in October and November! It's so sad when the season ends and I have to wait another 12 months for all my pumpkin stuff to come back! :rotfl:

Great reviews....How do I subscribe?:confused3

That's right! I can be a full-time DIS Reporter now! If only it paid well! :rotfl2: My DH's job promotion has sent us to Orlando, but WDW has gotten me there, of course! It's still hard to believe! Thanks for asking about the Boys! The Boys are actually in Florida right now at the house having a blast and I am here freezing in North Carolina! Plus. having oral surgery tomorrow! :scared: I'm ready to be back with the Boys! ::MickeyMo :hyper2:

I totally understand! It's been very hectic and crazy over here too! I've been trying to catch up on your amazing wedding trippie, but it's taking me awhile. I was gone all day yesterday, but as soon as I got home I went to look at more of your photos! :) I saw the cool new wedding buttons when we were there in WDW. So much better this year! :goodvibes I see you had a little Pal too! ::MickeyMo

There's going to be a special surprise for me!?
Awwww...I feel so special! :yay:

Oh, and I will be in NC until this Friday and then I am on my way back home to FL! :woohoo: I'll be cooped up on the couch starting tomorrow. I'm being put to sleep, so I'm not sure how I'm going to feel when I get home from the oral surgery.

aw yes! Another report to read from you! :woohoo: I hope you find your memory card that really stinks! You probably just left it at your new house somewhere! Thats too funny about the disney paint! I painted my room last year "one enchanted evening" purple and the trim is "tinkerbell" green! haha!

Oh and i LOVE  that mirror! Its fantastic. I know that when i have my own place it will have hints of disney all around too! Cant wait to read more!

Beaches & Cream

Sorry, there was no update yesterday! My Mom and I took a trip to Greensboro, NC and were there ALL day! We went to see the "Dancing with the Stars Tour," which was fantastic! I got to meet Joey McEntire of New Kids on the Block fame! I met Jordan Knight a couple of years ago! Yeah, I'm a dork! :goodvibes You gotta be an 80's kid to understand this! :rotfl2:

n25002324_31595898_3420.jpg

I am the MOST upset about not having ANY of my pictures from Beaches & Cream because it was my favorite stop on this trip!

I was so excited to go over to the Beach Club because I had never been there! We had to walk around for a while to finally find Beaches & Cream, even though it was right in front of us the entire time. There were the neatest ice cream cone tables outside! They really were ice cream cones! The bottom of the table was shaped like a cone and the tabletop was the ice cream. I love those tables!

Beaches & Cream is the neatest 50's Soda Fountain and it really is like stepping back into a 50's beach movie. They even serve Coke in the old-fashioned glass bottles. We got seated at a table for two right by the Jukebox, which made me pretty happy! There were also ice cream cone lights on the wall, which were so neat! There is even a parlor and red-vinyl booths and posters of the Disney characters at ice cream parlors. The atmosphere was great!

I was excited to order a classic 50's drink, so I went with the Lime Rickey, but I was quickly turned down by our waitress because there was no lime soda! What!? I was disappointed, especially since it was the drink item in the boldest print on the menu and then ordered the Cherry Ice Cream Soda and my Mom had a Cherry-Vanilla Coke! Yummy! The menu is mainly burgers and fries, perfect for a boardwalk meal! My Mom and I both decided on the Veggie Burger with fruit on the side, but we did have to order a side of Onion Rings to go along with it!

We didn't have good service this night either. Our waitress seemed out of it and irritated about having to work. She barely made eye contact with us and never came to our table, except to take our order. She also kept opening the door to go outside and get some fresh air, so we weren't sure what was going on! We did leave a tip this time though, but not as much as we could have.

Our burgers were very good, but the fruit wasn't too great because it was all melon. We skipped on the fruit and just ate the Onion Rings. :roof: We also got to see two large groups order "The Famous" Kitchen Sink, which is eight scoops of ice cream served with all the toppings in the house and a whole can of whipped cream! It's huge and actual served in a silver kitchen sink! It was pretty cool! When the waiter or waitress brought it out to the table, the lights in the restaurant went low and the ice cream lights on wall begin to blink to announce the arrival of the Kitchen Sink! We got to watch the group next to us finish the entire thing! Wow!

It was then time for dessert and I had to get something, since we were at an ice cream parlor. I saw the Mickey Mouse Sundae on the menu and knew that was my choice! I got to choose what kind of ice cream I wanted and one topping for my sundae. I was stuffed, so I decided to go light with the dessert and got Non-Fat Vanilla Ice Cream, but I did have to top it off with Hot Fudge! It is the best!

The Mickey Mouse Sundae was the cutest thing I've ever seen! It really was Mickey; his ears were two Oreo cookies, two Chocolate Chips for his eyes, a Cherry for his nose, and the stem from the Cherry was in the sundae as his tail! It was the best!

You won't believe it, but I lucked out and have a picture of my Mickey Sundae because I took a picture of it with my cell phone! Yay! I gotta find that memory card!
