My fear of Flying is gone!!

I had posted about my fear of flying before our trip. This was my first flight. (at age 40, can you believe that?) Well, the fear is gone. Flying is no big deal. We hit bad turbulence going to Portland Oregon on the way home, the Pilot wouldnt even let the attendants bring drinks. But, he told us to expect it, so it wasnt a worry. The one thing I didnt like and didnt expect was my ear pain! I got a bit of a head cold waiting for the monorail one night in the rain, so I guess that did a number on my ears on the way home. Just the landings. Boise landing was horrible on my ears, and i was deaf for about an hour after we got home too! My daughter, 6, was in tears too. Even with the earplanes. My hubby and son , 4, had no problems at all. I took decongestants too, but I guess it didnt do the trick. Would I let that stop me from going to Hawaii? No way. I think the way I got over my fear was simply for my kids. I dont want them to grow up with a fear of travel. You can do anything for your kids, ya know? (but, Id prefer direct flights form now on... too many landings are painful)

1st might want to edit your header (from LYING to FLYING ) big difference there.

2nd thats great it is real important to overcome fears when you look at the few mishaps during flying compaired to the thousands of flights everyday without none it is safer then driving to the market.

3rd DW has tried everything but the plugs (we will try that in June ) and she still gets bothered on the landings.
Just keep trying new things pack a freezie pop or suckers that make you suck-in more and still swallow to balance out.

4th have fun in Hawaii

We usually just chew gum which helps with the swallowing.

On one trip to WDW a little boy behind us was really bothered by the pressure, and his dad told him I was a doctor when the little boy didn't want to chew the gum, so the little boy listened to me.

Then the dad asks me "so, what kind of work do you do?" so I said, "Well, when I'm not a Doctor..." Thank God little kids don't always catch onto stuff like that

Glad you're over it! My favorite parts of flight are always take off (I love it when you get pulled back into your seat) and the landings.

DH hates the takeoffs and landings most. Those are the parts I love! It's like an amusement park ride, isn't it? Plus the whole emotional, "WOOHOO! We're finally on our vacation!" And if the plane banks around for the right runway, sometimes you get an awesome view of the city you're flying into. I had no idea until I flew just how beautiful the Seattle area is from the air.

And if the plane banks around for the right runway, sometimes you get an awesome view of the city you're flying into. I had no idea until I flew just how beautiful the Seattle area is from the air.

It's fun to see a new city from the air, but it's also fun when you come home and see things from the air. I need to call my buddy and see if he wants to go flying in his cessna. Now I've not only got the Disney bug on, but now the flying bug :/

I'm with the you on this one. I took my first flight in Oct. for my 39th birthday!

I am quite proud of myself, I did quite well if I do say so myself. Just a few tears here & there.

We had AWESOME views both getting to and coming from Vegas. On the way in we flew over the Grand Canyon. And on the way back we flew the red eye out of Vegas...... Both awesome in different ways!

I fly weekly for work and have never experienced the ear pain thing. I must say though that take-offs and landings are definitely my favorite part. Flying never gets old to me, the worst part of flying is the airport. I hate the long security lines, and the big airports that take forever to get to your terminal. San Diego and Orange County airports are great because they don't take forever to walk to your termial or to baggage, etc... Those are the airports I like to fly into when I go to Southern Cal.

Last time I flew out of SNA I liked the noise abatement procedure they went through on departure. Even though the captain told us about it, some people still looked a little freaked out.

Our pilot told us about the noise thing too (SNA) but, I couldnt really feel any big difference anyway. I did see some freaked out faces though... I will ask my kids doc about the ear thing...maybe she has some magic she can share with us.
