This was my familys last first trip to WDW. I am very sad to know that we will no longer have that awe in our eyes as we see everything for the first time. Ok it wasnt my first trip but it had been so long since I had been to WDW it may as well have been my first trip.
My very first trip was when I was either 7 or 8 years old. I pretty sure it was the summer after first grade and I would have been 7. It would have been in 1973. My parents just got a travel trailer and WDW was one of the first places we went. We stayed at the campground which is now known as Fort Wilderness. It may not have been called that at the time but I cant remember. What I do remember was that we brought our dog, Gretchen, and we put her in the WDW kennels. We were all impressed that we had choices regarding the flavor of dog food and the cleanliness. We thought Gretchen had a better place to stay than us! I also remember standing in line forever for Space Mountain. They had tickets that we had to use so I think we only got to ride on it once. We were able to use other resorts pools and I was so impressed with The Polynesian and Contemporary's pools. I wanted to go down that water slide at The Poly but I was too short. It is still one of my dreams to be able to go down that slide!
This is a picture of me at that age. I am pretty certain I am at the pool at The Contemporary:
My second trip came when I was a high school sophomore in 1983. My father had a conference and we stayed at The Contemporary. What a fun trip. I met a boy but since my kids will be reading this I wont give details. It was wonderful to be able to ride the monorail so easily. Epcot had just opened too. I dont think they even had everything open yet. All I remember is Spaceship Earth and Living w/ the Land. I am not even sure they were called this back then. I think that is all I am going to say about that trip other than the beach at The Poly can be quite romantic.
DH and I went to Disneyland the summer we started dating which was in 1989. We went with my mom and sister who was 13 at the time. It was a nice day but still dont remember a whole lot other than one of the most traumatic events in my life . riding Astro Orbiter.
I rode w/ DH and my sister in one rocket. I became panicked as soon as we started spinning. I was sitting in the front and was in charge of the lever to move us up. I held it down with all my might. DH was going whats wrong, whats wrong? I was crying so I couldnt tell him what was wrong. I think he must have grabbed the lever from me because we eventually were able to rise up even higher. DH had thought that since there were 3 of us in the car we were too heavy. When we got off he was completely shocked to see how upset I was. The question is, will my next ride on Astro Orbiter be any better? If you keep reading you may soon find out.
DH and I took our two older kids when they were 6 and 4 to Disneyland too. We went with my mother and father. My father was just starting to become ill and had recently had a stroke. This was in 2000. This was a fun day. I took DD, age 6, on her first roller coaster. We went on Disneylands version of Big Thunder Mountain. I dont recall if it has the same name. It was fun but I had just found out I was pregnant with our youngest so was too worried to do any other rides. We saw kind of show with Woody. We also did all of the Fantasyland rides. I remember my dad was so excited to ride the teacups with my kids. It scared me to death because he was in a lot of pain still. My dad died a little more than a year later and I am glad I have that memory of him in the tea cups with my kids. He laughed so much going around in those circles.
Here is a picture of DH and kids. I think they are in Astro Orbiter but it doesn't look high enough to me. Please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken. Notice who is not in this picture.
Here are my parents and DD:
I think I may be out of space so will continue in a little bit. Sorry for the strange pictures that I had to scan. This is my first time that I have ever scanned photos. I think I did something wrong. I will accept any tips on how to make this a cleaner TR. Also, how do you tell when you have used too much space?
