DH and DS10 are frustrating me.

We're planning (well, I'm planning) a FUN Spring Break trip to WDW... plans include AKL concierge, Sunrise Safari, Polynesian, fun dinners, a Disney Quest day...

What do I hear from DS10? "Disney's boring." WHAT??! This kid would live in his room attached to his PS2 and only emerge for trips to Blockbuster and to the kitchen if allowed.

And DH wants to know if I can plan a non-Disney trip for next Spring Break. He doesn't offer any CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions, just "non-Disney." Who elected me the family travel planner?

Once we arrive, I won't be able to pry these nutcases away from the parks, and DS will be begging to ride Splash Mountain and RockNRoller Coaster one more time... but getting them there is just wearing me down.

How on EARTH did I wind up living with these Disney impaired guys?

(DH teases that he's going to enroll me in "Mouseaholics Anonymous" after this trip. ;) )

Anybody want to trade families with me?

Kathy forget them and take me. I will be ever so grateful and I behave in public :teeth:
Sorry your family is magically impaired :( I must say I do feel lucky my 2 oldest do still enjoy going.
Have you tried any side trips to Universal? We love the parks there and I bet your dh and ds would too.

My DS 13 started with this same trip, Disney YUCK, I'm not going again! It think they believe it is uncool or too babyish. However when we went alone in October, it was like - oh gee couldn't we just come. He loves it too when he gets there. I said no problemo, me and the youngest DD will go by ourselves in a few years when we are due for another fix. I've already put my family on alert, I LOVE Disney, I will go every few years with or without you all.

YOu definetly don't want my folks then. I still live at home and I'm the only one who even has an interest in disney much less an obession. When my parents visited me on the college program one half day was enough for them :( I guess they've just gotten to old for the magic to take hold. I hope I never get that way.

I'd trade families (for the weekend) if you want 3 sick kids (dd4 ds2 dd2). My DH and I were suppose to go on our first weekend away just the 2 of us to disney this weekend. Needless to say I am at home and doing the next best thing surfing the disboards.

My kids still talk about the trip to disney from november. I'm amazed that my ds remembers! Hope they always want to keep going. It will be too bad if they don't because until they are 18 they will have no choice!!. I'm sure you are right and once they are there it will non-stop fun!

Kathy, I feel your pain!

My DS (13) says, "WDW AGAIN????" "When are we gonna go vacation somewhere ELSE?????" How many kids his age here in AZ would pay a fortune to take his place? People here in Arizona don't look beyond going to California for a visit to DL. Not a lot have gone to WDW; let alone a 13 year old 6 2 week trips in his short life!

Well, we looked and looked for a place to vacation this year. Hawaii? maybe.... cruise? too costly for five...... Mexico? DH won't go there since he is a police officer...... UGH! So, I was able to convince family to go again with an extended family bash. We are going with BIL with his three sons and new bride with her daughter and MIL and SIL and then an "adopted" son of MIL (very good friend who is like a son to her) and his girlfriend. Both of them are blind. We are going over Thanksgiving week.

You have a cool mom, Kathy!!!!!!! :bounce:

Someday, maybe I will get one of my family members back there.

Mishell

Where are you in D/FW?

Mishell-

I did go without my guys in December. :teeth: I took my mom instead! It was a great trip, and we got to meet lots of great DIS folks (including Dan Murphy!)

I'm telling them how lucky they are that I'll take them now and then. They'll be fine once we're there. They just don't love the Mouse quite as much as I do.

Thanks for the kind words, Dan! I'll have to tell Mom her DIS buddy said nice stuff about her. She'll like that. :D

(I'm a bit north of you, Mishell, in Flower Mound.)

My girls complain that I've got too much Disney stuff and they don't like Disney. They are still more than willing to go to WDW though. My DH will go to WDW he just doesn't go to the parks much.

They'll enjoy it once they get there Kathy, I've never heard the girls call WDW boring except when I drag them to do things I want to do. One of my plans for this trip is to cover attractions that for one reason or another we haven't been to. They aren't the headline stuff but the small things we just haven't made time for. After this trip we should be able to say we've done it all :earseek: and they might be saying they were bored! I will allow them several trips on RnRC & Splashmountain though.

I'm also holding out hope that there might be an e-night. That would be fun.

This may be blasphemy but here goes. Take them to Universal! It is really perfect for older kids who have outgrown Disney. We go twice a year and my DS 11 has no interest in doing Disney now. We all love the place. Great onsite hotels and its hard to beat front of the line access.

It's still nice to here my 20 yr old (who was 10 the first time we went to WDW) say "we're going to have soo much fun on our vacation and cruise...I can't wait!".

AZKathy,I LOVE your smilies.

OMG! maybe we can go to "mouseaholics anonomous" (MAA) together LOL I think I would go crazy if my family wasn't into Disney as they are. Although some of my friends think I should go to MAA. Hang in there they will come around. Especially after they have been there. There is a Disney Quest near Downtown Disney for DS10.

I can somewhat identify with you Kathy. My DH actually said that "concierge doesn't mean all that much to him" the other day. I almost fell out of my chair! Of course, you can't pry him away from the food buffet at the concierge lounge once we get there, and he loves having a key card to get on the private floor. He can be such a goober! He is a smart enough man not to admit if he wants to go anywhere other than WDW, LOL! :teeth: He knows he might get thrown out onto the doorstep to sleep. :teeth:

If you are the family travel planner then they just have to take the trip you plan, don't they? Otherwise, they can help plan. I think that's only fair.

You wouldn't want to trade families with me. My family is also Disney impaired. I once spent 10 days in Orlando with my husband and he never went to one park. Now, that's impaired. Lucky for me I had my niece and her son along and we had a ball.

I would love to go with you, Kathy. I don't think my dh would agree, though. We are using our money for wedding stuff these days ;)

You're going to have a wonderful trip, once you can get the guys to Orlando ;)

I may never forget the trip we took in May/June 2003 (two weeks). All DD wanted to do was stay in the room, connected to the internet on her laptop, talking to her "friends". She had just turned 12! I took her again last August, and we had a better time because I told her half an hour a day max, since the dial-up was "too expensive". She bought that. The biggest problem we now have is that she won't get going in the morning, so early touring in the hot summer months is out. Maybe I should invite someone else! Diana
