Each year I look outside at this time ......and think......it is getting dark awful fast tonight.......three years ago.....at the beginning of october.....my darling neice was kidnapped at knifepoint and assaulted......she is fine .....thank God.....but will be a long haul emotionally......she still cannot go out at dusk alone or at night alone...first of all.......jsut want to tell you some facts........she went out of her business all alone........so a rule should be.....if you have to go to a big parking lot at night or at dusk......have someone excort you.....or ask security at your blds........always look around you......be aware of your surroundings......Look ....have your key ready to get into the car.....do not beep it until you are there......bad idea to let the perv know that your car is there and you are coming......look in the back seat when you get to the car......better idea is to try to park near a big light in parking lots.......also a good idea when you are at shopping malls.....have your key with the point pointing out.....or have a noise alarm to scare off any nut case that wants to attack you.......if for some unlikely reason.......you are kidnapped.......don't make this nut hurt you.......observe everything.....places.....his vehicle....his face.....his hands....anything......my dn kept her wits and was able to get this guy convicted ......be safe my friends......

What a terrible thing for your DN to have to deal with!! I've always been nervous of being by myself in the evening and night...even in my home, which is why I do not stay home by myself. I think it's like second nature to females...at least for a lot of us...

I'm so sorry this happened to your DN. How horrible! Great safty reminders, but I would like to add one. Should the unthinkable happen and someone does get ahold of you, scream "FIRE" at the top of your lungs. Sometimes people are afraid to respond to someone screaming "help", but "fire" will attract a crowd.

Lots of good advice.

A woman was attacked about a block away walking home from work after dark. The guy had a choke hold on her so she couldn;t scream, but luckily someone noticed the struggle and called the police.

Thanx for posting this. I am sorry to hear about you rniece and glad she is ok. More people should take self defense classes and get involved in programs that teach excactly what you have written.

Anothe rpiece of advice is not to park near vans, the perp can be inside waiting to pounce on you while you are putting your packages away
