This seems to be a hard to research topic, so I'm sharing our experience in case it helps others.
We had cast member 1-day park hoppers with no expiration issued back in 1998.
First step was to get tech support on the phone for assistance linking our passes to My Disney Experience. This can be a challenge when the tickets are older than 1994, but it can be done with tech support's assistance.
Unfortunately, linking these old passes were challenge enough that we could not do our fast passes from MDE. Instead, the same tech support rep who linked our tickets also did our fast passes. We were never able to make or change fast pass experiences or times without cast member/tech support assistance.
Later, we booked our Disney hotel and customized our Magic Bands. This was such a last minute part of our trip that our bands were waiting for us on check in (we anticipated staying with family nearby originally). The bands were fun to use to enter our room and charge purchases with.
I was so focused on everything being in MDE that I left our paper tickets home! (I cried.) But 4 cast members from tech support to the front desk assured me that our Magic Bands had us covered.
Park entry day, and our bands did NOT immediately get us in. We had to go to guest relations to work it out, but it was worked out, without a lot of hardship, just some explaining. Everything WAS in MDE and that was enough.
So that's it! Cast member passes CAN be linked to MDE, but you might need to go to guest relations with old tickets. And you can't use them with fast pass plus with the same ease as regular tickets. But hey, a cast member ticket is a cast member ticket! Enjoy!!
