My experience with both EMM...

I did fantasyland EMM on sunday oct 7, and toy story EMM on wed oct 10.

Both were poor experiences for me and my DS.

For fantasyland
SDMT never had low crowds, and had at least 5 min wait time the whole time, starting at around 10 minutes, we only got to ride it 3 times, Pooh once, and Peter Pan once. We did have breakfast as well. It seemed they vastly oversold the number of tickets.

For toy story:
It was even worse, slinky dog was not opened until 30 minutes after start, around 7:55am. So even aliens and toy story land were relatively packed, since slinky was down, and once slinky was opened, it was 15 minute waits, and that didn’t die down either. We did breakfast from 7am till 7:20, and then rode slinky only twice, and the others once. Note, we left around 8:40 to get to Epcot, but the lines were still long from slinky when we left. Note that although I did see the line ups for the characters, when we walked past, the characters weren’t actually there, so we didn’t meet any of them either.

I know many experienced great times at both, but in both cases I don’t think we got our money’s worth.

We did both recently too and had they were both "okay". At Fantasyland we rode 7DMT three times and Peter Pan once ... the waits were minimal and we enjoyed the breakfast. We also enjoyed being well into the park before the crowds came in ... rode several other rides before the crowds worked their way into the back of the park.

Toy Story Land was not as successful ... we rode SDD three times with very little in the way of a wait and the alien ride once with no wait at all. TSM, however was experiencing some issues and we waited about 30 minutes for that one so we only went once. That was disappointing as that was the ride we were looking forward to most. We exited the park after the EMM was over and trying to navigate the park with the incoming (and very aggressive) crowds was a little frightening.

I do think they may have oversold both a bit ... but they really need to make sure that the rides are at "full speed" if they are charging the prices they do.

I think what also happens is that when these separately-ticketed events begin, not as many people sign-up as they simply don't know or they want to hear some first-hand reviews first. As guests start to attend these events and positive reviews start to come in, more people start signing up. Also, WDW may then increase capacity since they've already tested with fewer guests and it has gone well.

Having said that, a 5-minute wait at 7DMT sounds really good. Even with a FP+ during the day, you will wait at least 5 minutes.

Interesting. You should share your thoughts over on the TSL EMM thread...lots of info and trip reports there along with a big following of people looking for information.

We all have different perspectives and it's all fair criticism. A 5 minute wait for 7DMT during EMM is actually a pretty good result, from my perspective. Waits have generally been in the 10 minute range early on in the event and it will die down as it gets closer to 9am. Whether that's acceptable or not for an up-charge event where time is precious will be a different assessment for different folks.

TSL EMM is very new and we (the collective DIS we) are still gathering reviews and experiences (lots of discussion on the TSL EMM thread). Sounds like a ride closure caused the morning to really be out whack, which in my opinion is worth a visit or e-mail to Guest Relations to share your feedback.

Thanks for stopping by to share your experiences OP.

I would consider 5 minutes for SDMT worth it.

Your TSL experience was due to SDD being down and I would consider complaining for what I paid.

If I didn’t get to ride slinky at all, I would complain. I am not sure why the characters weren’t out when we were walking past their areas, I was considering complaining about that.
