So we do our annual trip to Disney in November which we are still going to do this year. DH found he has a business trip in June just minutes away from Disney so we are tagging along and getting 2 Disney trips this year :dance3:

When walking through Kroger grocery store the other day it dawned on me...
They offer 2X fuel reward points for gift card purchases. I bought $200 worth of Disney gift cards and got 400 fuel points. Getting 40 cents off per gallon last night at the pump was NICE. Now I have a plan!! :thumbsup2 I am just going to keep buying gift cards every week and saving up to $1.00 per gallon each time I fill up until my trips are paid off. :thumbsup2

The only thing that tickles my fancy as much as Disney is crafty ways to save a few bucks!! :goodvibes

Awesome job! Now, I hope that you paid for those GCs, groceries and gasoline with a rewards credit card so that you could do the "double dip". ;)

I did the same at Giant Eagle. I paid my ENTIRE trip with Disney cards, and got $8.10 off per gallon which is 2 full tanks and then some. The lady thought I was CRAZY when I bought $3500 in cards, and had to call a manager to approve the sale. Then I went back and bought more for spending money. We are driving down, so my first tank is paid, and I will have a free one when we get back!!!1:banana:

This is what I did when we went in 2010, but the only GC our giant eagle had at the time were $25 ones:rotfl: my travel agent was a VERY PATIENT woman. Then she thanked me a hundred times:worship: because she was going to Disney to and she was going to do the same thing

There is nothing better than filling your gas tank up and a few gas cans and having the total say$0.00

I love giant eagle I only buy what is on sale and what I have coupons on and I fell like I get a good deal there.

My husband and I by gift cards for everything at Giant Eagle. We needed a new washing machine, so we bought Sears gift cards at GE to pay for the washer and got some free gas. If we are going to a chain restaurant for lunch or dinner we always go to GE first and buy gift cards for the restaurant.

What an awesome idea!! I did this at Christmas time and got great deals on fuel and will now plan to do this in planning for my June trip to Disney. I also like to buy Target cards every pay period since I'm forever going to Target for *something*!! :)

I'm confused. You bought Disney Gift cards at Kroger? So, you had to buy $200 and then get a discount when you buy gas? I'm not sure what the 400 points means?

We don't use much gas so I'm wondering if this could be beneficial to us.

Anyone care to explain in detail? :headache:

I've also seen at Kroger a few times where they will offer 4x the fuel points on gift cards. I'm going to do this before we go to Disney and buy the gift cards and fuel up with those points before we go!!! Gotta love Kroger!

de8212...When shopping at Kroger, every $ you spend you receive 1 fuel point. Those fuel points can be used to get the discount on gas up to $1 (1,000 points accumulated throughout the month). Example, If you have 500 fuel points during the month, when you fill up at Kroger you can get .50 cents off the price per gallon. They sell tons of gifts card -- including Disney. When you buy them there, they will double your points. Buy a $25.00 gift card, get 50 fuel points. They double points in the pharmacy and on different items throughout the month.

I wish our local grocery stores sold Disney gift cards! I do this for other places that they sell cards for though. Just remember with the Disney cards that you need to hold onto the cards because if you have to cancel or have money refunded, Disney will put it back onto the same card. On our last vacation, the AC broke in our room at the Poly and the manager refunded one night back onto our card (I didn't ask, he just offered it).

That is a super great idea. I've done it before like at christmas when they had the 4x's points. Now that gas is going up it is even more important for me to plan ahead like this. :goodvibes

OK thanks for the explanantion. SO, how do they track the points? Is that through the Kroger card key chain thing? So, you buy your groceries from there with any type of funds (but with a disney credit card if you want extra points). Then you can get gas at Kroger and redeem the points you have earned to take $ off the price per gallon??? Do they expire each month?

And the Disney Gift Card is a separate thing, right? So, when you purchase a Disney gift card at Kroger you can get double the points. SO what do you use the Disney gift card for?? Buying stuff at Disney stores/resorts/WDW???

Sure thing! :thumbsup2

First off you don't "have" to buy any certain $ amount. I just happened to buy $200. With Kroger when you shop you earn "fuel points" This gets you either 10 cents a gallon off at shell or around here if you get gas at the Kroger gas station they will give you 10 cent per gallon off for every 100 points you have on your monthly points total. On gift card purchases they are offering 2x's the fuel points earned. When I chose to buy $200 worth of Disney gift cards they gave me 400 fuel points on my account. I then went out to the parking lot and filled up my gas tank while scanning my Kroger card and that 400 points gave me 40 cents off per gallon on my fill up. If I had bought $1000 dollars they would have given me $1 off per gallon. They won't do more than $1 off per gallon though. That plus I paid for the gifts cards with a rewards Mastercard that got me point to redeem there and this card is what I paid for my gas on and it gives me 2x's the reward for gas purchases. It all adds up :)

They do track it through your Kroger card.

If you don't use all your points this month you have until the end of the following month to use them

I use my Disney gift cards to pay the balance on my disney vacation package or room.

:thumbsup2

Thanks again for the detail. I think I get the main point of it now.

We don't shop alot at Krpger but this might be changing. We have done a little shopping there over the last few months but I assume the points are gone now. My wife has the little keychain card. Is there a phone # on there where I could call and confirm?

I guess there's no way to pay off fthe balance of my disney vacataion (due in APril) with the disney credit card and then buy disney gift cards to pay that off? Probably not because Chase surely doesn't take disney gift cards??

IKWYM! When I bought my gift cards to pay for our last trip, they only had $100 cards and I thought that was bad!! I can't imagine $25 at a time.:rotfl: This time I bought my gift cards when Giant Eagle had a special of 20 cents per $50 spent instead of the normal 10 cents and thought I was in heaven.:cloud9: We have a friend who hasn't paid for gas since Christmas! They get gift cards for everything. I need to remember to do this. We do get the Regal cinema cards a lot and whenever we're going to make a big purchase at Bed Bath & Beyond. Love the Sears thing with the washer!:thumbsup2 Well, I have to go and pay for the balance of my trip...this time I scored $500 gift cards, so it won't take as long, thankfully!:good vibes

Congrats to everyone scoring big savings while spending!

What makes it even better if you have a credit card that offers bonus points for spending at a grocery store. For example if Disney Visa is running 3x rewards for grocery - buy gift cards (Home Depot, movies, restaurants, holiday gifts), they can't tell it isn't a 'grocery' purchase. :thumbsup2

Disney visa sent out the notice if you bought store gift cards they were not going to credit you with disney rewards.
But if I buy gift cards at Kroger, DISer have found they show up as groceries???? So we would get rewards.

I have gotten to the point that I buy gift cards from Kroger for everything I can. I am lucky that I have to drive by a kroger anytime I leave the house. I keep a $25 mcdonald and subway gift card in my purse at all times, if I am going to lowes or home depot I get a gift card first, if I am buying something on amazon, I put everything in my cart and then make the .5 mile trip to Kroger and get a gift card. For my DS birthday he requested concert tickets as a present, first thing I did was check Krogers gift cards and sure enough they had gift cards for ticket master, if we go out to dinner we buy a gift card. Obviously I buy Disney gift cards for all disney expenses. When you do this you would be surprised how quickly the points add up. I can not remember the last time I paided for gas without getting $1 off per gallon. I just wish Kroger was like Giant Eagle with no limit and no experation. I have lost points(or given them to friends) before because of that issue(expecially when they run the 4x fuel points specials.
