Welcome to my first PTR!!
It all started when my 12 year old DS and I were sitting on our respective couch spots last month and he looked at me and said, “You know, mom, if you and John ever wanted to take a vacation without me and Yaya, (his sister), I’d be totally fine with that…"
Really….hmm…super-suspiciously, I asked, “What if I went to Disney without you?”

“That’s fine – really – I’m totally fine with it.”

See, we're planning a big huge vacation to California (including DL and DCA!) in November of 2017, so the kids have their minds set on that one.
But I think that's an awfully long time to wait but I know we haven't really made room financially until then but if it's just the two of us then well that's a lot cheaper and I bet if we just went for a couple of days it wouldn't be so bad and after all it's been 18 years since I took a trip without at least one of the kids and I really fell in LOVE with Disney World during my first trip there last year and wow I cant wait to go back, there's so much we didn't do that I would have loved to do and, OH! I'm sorry, I'm rambling.

I finished cooking dinner and hurriedly did the dishes, grabbed the phone, and went to the Disney website. What date to choose?
“My birthday seems like a good excuse to go…” I thought. And within minutes I had a modest 2 day package ready to present to my DH…when the time was right…
And later that evening it was.
“You know how you always ask me what I want for my birthday and I always say ‘Nothing?’” I asked DH.
“Yeah,” he said.
“This year I’d like this.”
And I presented him with the package, all loaded up and ready to go. He said he’d think about it. This was on a Tuesday. So I went about my business for the rest of the week, kind of hoping, but mostly just deciding not to get my hopes up.
We're the type of couple that handles finances in a joint fashion; I’m the pay-the-bills lady and he’s the budget guy. He has us planned financially in an excel workbook until way past our retirement, so when a big purchase comes up it's his job to try to find a way to make it fit. I was hoping that’s what he’d do with this idea o’ mine!
Friday rolled around and we were having a normal late-ish evening, the news was on, and I was almost asleep on the couch after a loooong week at work. My DH walked through the living room, looked at me, and asked, “Do you love me?”
“Hm? Of course,” I said.
“Good. I love you too. By the way, I massaged a birthday Disney trip into the budget for you.”
I was up in a flash! I ran to my husband, hugged him, went to the kitchen for a glass of celebratory wine, and settled in for some happy Disney planning! Funny how a Disney trip can perk you right up!
So, on to a couple of particulars:
Who:Me and DH
When:April 16th thru April 20th
But wait, you ask, I thought you presented your DH with a 2 day trip request? That’s right friends, my husband said, “Why go for 2 days when we can go for 4?”
He asked my daughter, who is in college and lives at home, if she’d mind holding down the fort and watching her brother while we’re away and she was more than happy to accommodate. Here’s the cast:
Me and DH
And I'm going to show you my fantastic kids, because, let's face it, without them we wouldn't be doing this, unless they, like, didn't live with us and stuff.
