Should I try to talk her out of it??

The girl loves Elvis. She probably knows every word to about 10 of his songs ( blame Nana and Papa for that!)

I usually make her costumes and wanted to get an idea for materials, etc and asked her about a week ago what she wanted to be. She said Elvis. I thought it was a momentary lapse of reason, so I asked her again last night. She told me very sternly, "I want to be Elvis mom". I said, what about Priscilla? She said, "No, Elvis."

Ok, fine. Would you think it wierd to see a little girl dressed as Elvis? To me that would be like seeing a little boy dressed as Marilyn Monroe!

I don't know why I care so much, I just do :confused3

that's so adorable. i think it's great that she wants to be elvis!

i say go for it...:)

It all depends...does she want to be young Elvis, or old Vegas Elvis?;)

Let her be what she wants. If nothing else, you'll have some great photos to torture her with when she's a teenager!

She wants to be old Vegas Elvis! She wants the white jumpsuit and the long sideburns, the black hair, the excessive jewlry, the sunglasses, everything!

She also asked me if I could draw "hair" on her chest! :rotfl:

I think that's so cool! Let her do it! Halloween is just about fun, not what's "correct."

At least she does not want to be the Runaway Bride, Jennifer Willbanks, and wear a towel on her head like I was going to one year....

That's so cute. Let her do it. I remember one episode of FULL HOUSE where Stephanie dressed up like Elvis for a Honey Bee talent show. She looked cute with the white jumper thing and the wig with the sideburns. Now the chesthair, that's probably not necessary.

Well, you can probably guess what I'd say! :thumbsup2

I think that's hilarious and you should definitely do it. She'll be the hit of the neighborhood, for sure. I've been looking for an Elvis costume for my youngest - she'll be 11 months at Halloween.

Awesome! I'd love to see a picture.

Okay, I'm cracking up - I think this is great! I LOVE Halloween and applaud her for "going for it"! even though you're the one with the work as designer & creator. I agree that you should enjoy and yes, show her the pictures when she's older!

Happy Halloween!

I understand that little bug that irritates us parents when kids don't want what we want... like my oldest loving the color pink which I can't stand, or my youngest wanting to cut her hair short (those beautiful curls, no way), but honestly it makes no difference in the long haul... you'll have wonderful memories of your little girl dressed as the King, and you'll love those memories... just like I will love the pictures of my 8 year old dressed in so much pink she looks like a dang piece of bubble gum.
Be glad she doesn't want to dress up an Paris Hilton or whatever slooty girl happens to be the rage this year.

Thanks for all the replies- it definetly made me feel better about her being Elvis. I told her this morning that she could be Elvis and you would have thought I told her we were going to Disney World!:cutie:

So now comes the hard part of making the costume! I am glad I asked her early since it will probably take me awhile to sew this thing together since she wants sequins and gold embroidery!

I will definetly post pictures when the time comes.

a couple of suggestions-

get some spirit glue and fake hair from a costume place for the 'chest hair',

get some of the tiny lights that michael's sells for holiday sweatshirts. they have a tiny battery pack that sticks to the inside of clothing. you could outline some of the outfit or put 'elvis' on the back and she would be very cute as well as safely visable when trick or treating.

I AM LOVING THIS THREAD! Good for you with saying yes, I think that is the coolest idea! Nice change from all the princesses (no offense to the princesses)

I'm loving all these kids showing appreciation for the "old school" stuff as my five year old likes to call it. Anything that's pre 2003 is old school to him (he's five).

My kid likes Sinatra, the Beatles, Louis Prima, all kinds of 70's crap my husband loves :lmao: big band music, 1930's cartoons (ever watch Cartoon Alley on TCM? Excellent!). Sometimes I think he was born in the wrong era, but I love it.

Oh and you definitely have to let her have a cape.

I love it!!!

My cousin's DD went as Elvis last year for Halloween (she was 6) and she was the cutest thing I have ever seen. She had the wig & sideburns, glasses, jumpsuit, the works. Everyone just oohed and aahed over her costume.

Here is a link to a kid's sized Elvis costume: http://www.costumecraze.com/Child-P...ock-Star-Costumes-Elvis-Presley-Costumes.html

I know that she ordered her little girls costume but I don't know where from. It was really similar to this one but it was jeweled out big time (she may have added them after she received the costume).

Good luck and definitely take some pics!! Gotta love Halloween! My DS5 wants to be Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas and his 2 year old little sister wants to be Sally from the same movie. Gotta love it when kids pick their own costumes.
