DD 13 is pretty bummed right now. We had a BB game on Monday and she fell during the game and couldnt get up. They carried her off the floor. Took her to the Dr and she didnt think it was broke, but did xrays anyway. The radiologist called her back and said yes there was a fracture. So we went and got a splint on until the swelling goes down. Will go back on Monday for a cast.

She lives for sports. I tried telling her shes still part of the team and can go to the games, practices, etc.......she just says "yea, but Im not playing".
There is no way that she will be back before the season ends. (Ours ends before Christmas).

I hurt for her and dont know what to do to make it any easier.

So sorry for your DD. Maybe can you get her a camera so she can take photo's of the team as they're playing? That might help her feel like a part of the team that way.

That's actually a good idea. She can sit on the sideline and take some photos of everyone.

:grouphug: Sending lots of hugs to your daughter. :grouphug:

I can imagine how disappointed she must be. :sad2: DD16 sprained her ankle, (not nearly as bad as a broken leg), in dance class last month. She lives for dance and was SO disappointed. She had an ankle brace and was on crutches for several weeks, and it was another few weeks before she could dance.

She went to all her dance classes anyway, and it did help her feel better to be with her friends. On the other hand, it killed her to have to sit and watch and not participate!

Give her lots of attention, and, if she feels up to it, let her have some friends over. Good luck and I hope your daughter is feeling better real soon!! :)

:grouphug: for your DD. That stinks. DD16 dislocated her knee at dance camp last summer on the first night and could not participate the rest of the week. She was so upset! We were away in NH during that time and she kept calling in tears because she had to sit and watch everyone else. Sitting isn't the same as playing but having her go to the games will keep her involved. Maybe she can offer pointers/advice since she can see the game from a different perspective now. Taking pictures is a good idea too.

We just got the sweetpea's cast off her leg last week. She broke her leg the day after we got back from WDW. Broke both bones in her lower leg. One of them on 3 planes. She was in a full leg cast for over a month, and then in a short walking cast for another couple of weeks. She was out of school up until 2 weeks ago. She missed the entire winterball season (partly due to another injury she got playing softball in a preseason game).

Keep a close eye on your DD for depression. The sweetpea was a very active and social child and once she broke her leg, it all stopped. She got really down and depressed because of it. Didn't eat, only wanted to sleep and was generally upset. It was kinda scary since it was so not like her.

Try to keep her involved with her friends and her team as much as possible.

Good luck.
