Help budget board friends... My daughter is in love with American girl Dolls and stuff... She is 6 almost 7.... Though I think the stuff is super cute its a little pricey for me... Her grandmas are each buying her one doll for Christmas with the books etc... but I am looking for some things to add to it... any help please.. :)

Target sells a line of Our Generation dolls and accessories that fit the AG dolls. The furniture is cute and so are the clothes and they are cheaper in price than AG.

Watch the AG site for specials. They usually have a few things on clearance and sometimes offer free shipping codes with a minimum purchase.

Good luck. It's an expensive thing to collect but well worth it in my opinion.

DD12 still pulls out her AG dolls and plays with them sometimes. She got her first one about the same age as your DD.

There are several free shipping public codes that are available now through November 7th on the AG website. There will likely be a nice Cyber Monday sale on their website. As mentioned, there is competition for the 18" dolls, clothing, and accessories. ToysRUS has a nice bunk bed/desk set for around $40 that would fit both your daughter's dolls. You can find cute clothing on Etsy and check Ebay too or your local Craigslist. For accessories, as mentioned there are cute things from OG and ToysRUs brand "Journey Girls". Walmart also has accessories, clothing, and a basic bed. Oh...and Target has had their 18" doll kitchen on sale several times and it's adorable and well-made.---Kathy

I forgot to add- join AGPlaythings and you'll get lots of good advice and meet other Mom's with daughters who love AG as well as adults who also collect and will have good tips for you.---Kathy

I have had such great luck going to consignment shops.

I got a retired doll (Nellie) that is well over $120 on ebay for $60, she's in great condition, no hair cut, no stains, all her clothes, her book, I think the doll sat on a display and wasn't even played with.
And I also got Kit's roll top desk and chair for $30 ($70 on their website). The desk is in good condition too with a little paint (nail polish maybe?) on the chair.
And I got 2 oufits for $10 each, Kits PJs and slippers, and Samantha's winter hat, coat, and mittens.
GL!

Michaels carries a line of clothes for 18" dolls. They aren't as good as the real AG stuff, but my daughter loves it! I went in with my 40% off coupons daily for a good while last Christmas and bought my daughter most of what they carried! The shoes don't fit quite as well, but overall, the stuff is really fun, and Waaaaay cheaper than AG!

I see that you are in Iowa and so I will recommend making the trip up to Middleton, WI (outside of Madison) for the twice yearly American Girl warehouse sales. They are run by the Madison Children's Museum and held in July and Oct/Nov. The fall sale was yesterday. At the fall sale they have a selection of accessories, books, Just Like Me dolls, sometimes retired dolls (Chrissa was there yesterday) and sometimes clothing. The accessories usually run between $5 and $15 dollars. They summer sale has all the dolls.... running about $65. They also have a ton of crafters set up with cute, unique clothes, furniture and accessories for your doll. The events are timed entry and the tickets usually cost $5. You can check out details on the Madison Children's Museum website.
