in a couple of weeks - what should I expect? What is a typical 17 year daughter like??

Pretty much the same as a typical 16 yr old. daughter. I don't think they change a whole lot from year to year. Maybe a bit more mature, we can only hope.
How is she as a 16 yr old?

I have 2 DDs who have passed that age, so I have lived with 2 that age and seen many, many others. There is no "typical" 17 year old girl! My 2 are so different from each other, and all their friends never seemed to fit in a teenage mold either!

I think once they pass 14 or 15, things start to calm down as they mature. I get along great with my 17 1/2 year old DD.

Mine spent a lot more time thinking and on the phone in her room. Thinking about the future and how exciting and yet scary it is. A lot more of "when I am 18 ..........." as in, I'll do as I please.

You said it Dan- my oldest turns 17 next Wednesday:eek:

I didn't notice much difference in my dd when she turned 17 years old. But when she turned 18...let's just say 18 was the magic number in Ashli's mind, lol. We worked it out and it turned out to just be a bump in the road for us but I do remember saying to her at one point "Don't you EVER remind me again that you're 18 again in that voice, 18 is just a number, maturity is a way of life!"

I'm 17 now...I don't think I've changed much :)

but what sucks is I'm really young(I'll be 18 when I start college) and all my friends turn 18 this year and they are like-come clubbing with us! and I'm like-I can't! I'm not old enough! :(

I'm 18, in college, and trust me you're not missing out on much! hahaha.

BTW, my friend Laura who was 17 until a couple of weeks ago in college never had a problem getting into the clubs.

To answer the OP, 17 is not bad. You already passed the worst teen years. Now you have to worry about driving and the like, but thats pretty much it.

I had no daughters :( However, I was 17 once and I was a very good kid ;) My sister, on the other hand

Turning 17 is not bad but I turn 17 when i was a sophmore in high school. My mom never worried about me turning 17 but on September 3 of this year i turn 21 and my mom said that i couldn't turn 21 because i am the middle child and her last girl.
Me and my brother and sister is all 3 years apart and she had no problem have 3 teenagers. Turning 17 is not bad at all.

My dd turned 17 the last of august this yr and she is a senior in high school , she is a really good kids, but has started to say when i am 18 i can do this. Ya right i say.LOL:rolleyes:
I think they start to understand things alittle more and stop taking things for granted.

17, same as 16...its like a random filler age. the weeks before 18th birthday a little crazy, itchy, ya know? but 17 don't worry, she already adjusted to the way you feel at 16 and she won't feel any different until 18. like when you're 13 and a teenager for the first time, you'll act the same when you're 14 and 15.

BUT i will tell you, i dont know if you start to forget this when you get older, because I'm 19 now, but i look back at when i was in jr high and in early high school and remember how OLD i thought i was and now I look at kids that age and think of how YOUNG they are, so i'm wondering if parents and teens can find a grey area and see what the other sees? because it is total perception, the way you look at things. Even now, i'm totally independent, but wasnt I sure as heck felt independent at 17, it so strange! lol look at me its 530 in the morning and i feel like i'm trying to answer one of those age old questions, and discovering the difference between parents and their children for the first time! i'm crazy and need to go to bed!

That's ALL I hear from my 17 year old DD. She will turn 18 in February and going to clubs is all she wants to do. She's getting bored just going to movies all of the time!

my 18th birthday is next friday.. how do you think I feel?!? I already have plans to go clubbin, and taking EVERYONE with me :) I do feel left out being in college being 17, everyone assumes you are 18 once you get to school though..
