Hi, I asked a question the other day about Travelers checks and was told they aren't good overseas. Thanks good advice. :) My DD is touring England & Paris in a few weeks. So I went to our local bank to get her an ATM card. They told me no one will give her a card because she is under 18. Aggghhhh, I found a Visa Travelmoney card we can get. So what do you think? Will this work? I can purchase one at our local AAA.

How does Visa TravelMoney work?
It's a prepaid Visa card, which means you can spend up to the value placed on the card anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. You can shop in stores, online, over the phone, and by mail order. You can get cash at Visa/PLUS ATMs worldwide. Each time you make a purchase, the amount of that purchase is automatically deducted from the card.

Any Advice is greatly appricated. Thanks, Gina

Hi

The visa travelcard sounds excellent. The visa is accepted in most outlets here in the UK and as she can get cash from a cash machine as well she should be fine.

If she runs out - can you top it up for her? If so you'll have peace of mind for any emergencies.

I think you've come up with a pretty good solution! ;)

Sounds like a good plan. My regular bank debit card is a visa one so I know visa debits are widely used over here.

When we travel we use Amex travellers cheques cards. They are like travellers cheques only on a pre loaded card. You can load them up with UK £, US$ and Euros. Anyone over the age of 13 can use them. They might be a good idea as you can load it up with ££ for her England stay and Euros for her Paris stay. The info is here. http://www.americanexpress.com/uk/tcc/index.shtml

This also looks like a good deal. My sister in law had trouble using her American Express card while in England do you think she will be able to use this kind of card easier or i should just go with the visa?

Thanks for all your help

Visa cards are more widely accepted than the American Express.

I have an Amex credit card and have never found anywhere where I have not been able to use it. We origionally got it for our American trips but now I use it over here for my regular spending. When we were in America we found some machines would not accept our visa card, not sure why!

I have a mastercard and an Amercian express card and i have to say that Amercian express is not as widely accepted. It's getting better but the retailers say it's because AMEX charge them more than VISA & Mastercard.

I would recommend the VISA as this is accepted everywhere.
