What the heck is a Nova Scotia (She pronounced it like coat-e-ya). I said it was in Canada and it was pronounced like Skosha. She, who is 19 and knows everything just ask, said Scot-i-a that's how it's spelled. So in my infinite wisdom retorted "Don't be so Dumm-B"

A few days ago she also asked if anyone has ever climbed Mt Everest?

It doesn't stop for some people. The EVP's secretary called a friend of mine to setup for an advisory board meeting in her office. My friend called me and said, "please say what this spells: C-A-R-A-F-E." I told her that it's pronounced, CA-RAFF. She said, "Thank you! I thought I was going crazy." She said that multiple times during her conversation with the secretary, she was told where to place the CA-RA-FAYs on the table.

It's become a joke among my friends. I even got one as a gag gift for Christmas from one of them so I could pour coffee out of my very own CA-RA-FAY.

I'll help you out... Shubenacadie and Musquodoboit are "Native Canadian", Mi'k Ma'k (Micmac) I believe.

Ben Eoin is Gaelic, hailing back to our Scottish roots. Ben Eoin is in Cape Breton, which is home to the world famous Cabot Trail. The majestic highlands are reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, so our province was named Nova Scotia which means New Scotland.

It's actually scary how some intelligent people know so little about the world around them. I have a good friend who asked me to explain the difference between Washington state and D.C. and where each one is located.

I have spent a fair amount of time in Ben Eoin which is less than an hour from our home as my grandparents spend the summer months there. Quite a nice place.

Here in FL we have a lot of Indian names for things that people from other places just can't seem to get. Lakes like Okechobee and Tohopekaliga, Kissimmee, Osceola... the list goes on and on.

Actually in a lot of the northeast you'll find similar situations. The school district where I did K-9 had Indian names for all of it's schools. I went to Arongen, Tesago, and (I think) Gowana. If you go out near Buffalo you'll find Cheektowaga. Onondaga is near Syracuse, and Ho-Ho-Kus is in northern NJ.
