and my goal is to get all A's.....wish me luck :)

How many classes are you taking? Definitely, good luck!

Good luck. I hope you have a great semester. :) My classes start Monday and I'm really looking forward to this semester. :)

Good luck to you too, Tammi. It makes a lot more sense to start classes on Monday than on Thursday (they start today but I don't have any Tuesday/Thursday classes.)
Planogirl, I'm taking 5 classes.

I started my classes Tuesday, I was sooo nervous, but it went really well! It's been exactly 20 yrs since I graduated from high school and this was my first college class, so I'm glad to have that overwith! I'm taking 15 hrs, so hopefully I will do ok. Good luck to you!!!:D

You go girl! Hope it all goes well!

Good luck to you too Snow White! Don't be intimidated! You'll do fine.:D

Good luck on your college career, Snow White.

Good Luck! I start Monday and I am not ready to go back -- Summer was too short this year! Then again, our first football game is next Saturday, so that'll make the transition a lot easier!

Good luck, Becki! And all others going back! :) I went back yesterday. Should be a BUSY semester with Literature, Physics, and Algebra right now. Then next month I add on Foundations in Education. I get to read 80 pages for Lit by Monday. Twenty-five down, 55 to go!

Good Luck HW!! I start back on Monday and am excited to get the year going.

Good luck to all! I started last week, and I must say TGIF!!! I'm 32, and I am finding the juggling act to be a challenge. We should start a DIS support group!;)

Sounds great! I'm in my 40's, a single parent, and have 2 pets...LOL! Juggling act is EXACTLY what's done!

Thanks for the condolences, Shannon! :) I never had algebra in high school because I wasn't planning on going to college. I remember those nights all to well of sitting at the kitchen table with Dad explaining math. Not much sunk in! Just didn't make sense to me. Let's hope it's better now! :teeth:

I hate Algebra! I don't remember any of it, and it is my last class today. I usually aim for all A's, but I will be happy just to pass this one.

I hope all of you have a wonderful semester!! I graduated this past May at 40 something (yes, I was a late bloomer like some of you!) and it is a wonderful feeling. It is even better when you get a job. ;) ;)

Just remember to enjoy learning but take some time for yourself every once in a while! :) :)

Well after long discussions with Roger, I decided that I'd have a better chance of finding a good job right out of college with a major in Criminal Justice (he's got relatives and connections in the field) and I already have a few Criminal Justice courses under my belt (with A's in all of them) so I changed to Criminal Justice as a major.
I'm taking Conflict Resolution & Mediation, Policing Theory & Practice (both of those two taught by the same professor and they're back-to-back classes....and he's not bad looking and seems to be a very good, very motivating teacher as well...he gave us a lecture this morning about how he went to college first when he wasn't really interested, ended up trying 125 credit hours at University of Florida but only having 84 when he left, going into police work for 10 years and deciding to go back to school, getting a 4.0 for the two years he had left and then getting a Masters in Public Administration as well as a Law degree and graduating from Law School in the top 10% of his class....he went on to tell us that if we're in school and don't want to be there to quit but if we want to be here and haven't been doing very well, then this is the day to start working to do well...he has a strict attendance policy but I don't think I'll mind going to his classes at all), Criminal Law, and Prospectives on Terrorism.

Hey HW, I am a double major in Poly Sci-International Relations and Criminal Justice. Your classes sound interesting. This semester (second to last I hope!!! Yea!!!) I am only taking one CJ course and 4 others in Poly Sci. Last time I took 4 CJ and one Poly Sci (didn't do this for any specific reason it just turned out that way). Taking ones that interest you is important.

What is required of you, as a CJ major at your school??

Well, this is what I still have left to take as far as Gen Ed:
2 semesters of language or testing out of language requirement (I'm sure I can do the second for French)
the easier of two Statistics courses
English 201
an Ethics course

As far as Criminal Justice credits, 36 are required....I still have 21 left to get so I will graduate the semester after you.
The core classes are:
Justice System Survey
Criminal Law
Foundations of Criminal Justice
Research Methods in Criminal Justice
Case Studies in Criminal Procedure
and
either Senior Seminar, Individual Study, or an Internship

Wow you only have 36 required credit hours for a CJ degree?? At my school, aside from the Gen Eds which every major has, there are

18 hours of core requirements:

Criminal Justice System
Crime in America
Prosecution and Adjudication
Corrections and Penology
Police and Society
Research Methods in Criminal Justice

Then 27 additional hours in upper level CJ electives and 15 hours in supporting course work. A total of 60 hours of CJ work.

For my Poly Sci major, since I am on the International Relations track I have these specific areas of specialization to take credit hours from. So other than Gen Eds there are two course pre-reqs then 30 hours of upper level restricted electives. Due to the areas of specialization I have to take a specific amount from each section. Then my other electives are variable adding up to the 120 hour graduation requirement.

At my school in order to double major you need only complete the requirements for each major and reach the 120 hour mark. Because of the nature of the majors I am taking I will have 161 hours when I graduate (and I never took any other course that do not count towards my degrees). This means that I will actually achieve two separate degrees instead of one degree showing my double major.
